From Jayski:

Gibbs fourth team "a long shot": Joe Gibbs Racing President JD Gibbs said plans for a fourth Sprint Cup team were not necessarily derailed when Carl Edwards opted to remain with Roush Fenway Racing, rather than jump to JGR. "In each of the last three years, we've looked around to see what kind of things pop-up that would allow us to make (a fourth team) work," Gibbs said. "But it all has to come together. You have to have a driver, which is key. You need the right partner to sponsor the team (and) you have to have the right crew. If all that comes together, we're good to go. We can go quickly. But we've also learned that if all that doesn't come together, we're better off waiting, instead of trying to force something to go together. That's where we are right now. We can go quickly if it all lines up, and that's our hope." He admitted that a fourth Sprint Cup Series Toyota in 2012 is "probably a long shot, (since) we're not lined up with the right partners. But I also wouldn't rule it out. We don't have to plan something out six months in advance. We can cut it a little closer and make it work. We're in no hurry. There's no panic and we're not going to force it, but if the opportunity is there, we can take advantage of it quickly."(Sirius Speedway)(8-12-2011)

potential sponsor: hey joe, i've got +$20 mil lying around to sponsor a cup team. how about setting it up. oh yeah, put a rookie no name with *potential* in to drive it. it's only money.

Bill Elliott will drive for about 300k per race

Or that.

Elliot is still my favorite driver and the reason I became a Nascar fan but, man, it kind of pains me to see what's happening these days.

Is there another proven veteran driver looking to switch now that carl is staying at Roush?
There's established teams scrambling for sponsor $$$. I can't see any sponsor going to a new team with a rookie driver at this time.

Mark Martin's without a ride but I have a feeling he ends up in Nationwide full time next year working with Danica.

Brian Vickers is also without a ride.

LOL, he shouldn't be allowed to race go carts.
pretty sure running into a fence, even in a gocart, is still going to cause damage. Even at 5 mph.

Clint Bowyer is still unsigned and sponsorless for next year. If JD can convince gamepro to go cup racing next year or find another sponsor for Joey I think Clint would fit in nicely in the 20 car and Home Depot colors.
