Gibbs struggling with grandson's leukemia diagnosis
By Greg Engle

Zachary Taylor Gibbs the 2-year-old son of J.D. Gibbs president of Joe Gibbs Racing has been diagnosed with leukemia and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

The diagnosis came two weeks ago and team owner and Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs said the family is struggling to cope with the illness.

"We got the news on Taylor, and it was really devastating to our whole family," Gibbs said. "So I've kind of been going through a process here the last two weeks, and I'm probably like a lot of you, this is much more important than winning football games. And winning football games is important. That's the third most important thing in my life. God's first, family and loved ones second and then my occupation third. "

Gibbs' other son, Coy, is an offensive quality control coach for the Redskins. Between them, they have six sons and one daughter.

J.D. Gibbs says that being surrounded by the NASCAR community has helped him deal with his 2-year-old son's recent diagnosis for leukemia.

Gibbs, the team president of Joe Gibbs Racing, said that he's learning quickly about the disease his son Taylor is fighting.

"I didn't know anything about leukemia," he said. "... You learn real fast. The good thing about it, the younger you are the better. It's a form called ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia) which is, if you're going to get one, that's the one to get - that's the reality of it."
