Gloves, required? a few asked, so...... Q) While watching the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday, #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr. wasn't wearing his racing gloves during the race. Is it mandatory for racers to wear ALL of their racing gear during the race? And also can Dale Jr. be penalized for not wearing his racing gloves during the race?
A) Jeff Hammond: No, drivers are not required to wear gloves. It is recommended that they wear them.
A) Larry McReynolds: That's a great question, but gloves are not required by NASCAR. It is a lot like a full-face helmet. NASCAR suggests you wear it.

I'm a Jr Fan as well So I can Understand why they would want him to wear the gloves cause if a fire started inside the car his hands would be exposed.
 
I'm sure the drivers know the risk and if they choose to race without gloves -all the power to 'em.
 
Maybe they took them off for the moment. Does seem kinda weird that they wouldn't use gloves even if it didn't catch fire
 
Never know.. Maybe during a long race like that you need to take them off.
 
In a brief post-race interview, Jr. said his 'cool box had quit working early in the race' so talking off the gloves was a way to dissapate some body heat.
 
Real racer's don't need no stinking gloves!....

Yep.. this was in LA where she was signing copies of the magazine.. She also performed a few songs..

Ahem!!! LOL Back to them gloves things. Ya know, Gloves are
kinda in the category of full face helmets, and 5-point seat restraints.
Hans devices and wrap around seats. Gosh darn it, they are to help protect the driver.

there was a front end crash that would normally
be a ho-hummer, that turned into a flaming inferno???
Ordinarily the driver gets out.................no harm, no foul. All
the protective gear, "including gloves" protected him from getting burnt!!!
Don't go pulling that used up macho chant; it's just silly!!!!! ;)
Jr should have had gloves on!!!!! JMHO!!!!!

Odd that Waltrip wasn't blaring to NASCAR about it on INCR monday.

Maybe they could tie a string between them and run it through the sleeves like our mittens used to when we were kids. :)
