The nickname that is. Kinda weird IMO

On Tuesday, General Motors sent a memo to Chevrolet employees at its headquarters, promoting the importance of "consistency" for the brand, which was the nation's best-selling line of cars and trucks for more than half a century after World War II. And one way to present a consistent brand message, the memo suggested, is to stop saying, "Chevy," though the word is one of the world's best-known, longest-lived product nicknames. If taken to its logical conclusion, Chevrolet would presumably need to ask Jeff Gordon, the four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion who currently races a Chevrolet Impala, to change the website address -- jeffgordonchevy.com -- for his dealership in Wilmington, N.C. And what about rolling back the popular culture references to Chevy? Elton John, Bob Seger, Motley Crue and the Beastie Boys have all sung about Chevy, and hip-hop artists rap about "Chevy Ridin' High" or "Ridin' in My Chevy." Worthington, the branding expert, said Chevrolet seemed unclear what the brand stood for. But ultimately, he said, consumers "will call you whatever they want to call you." But not Chevrolet staff members. A postscript to the memo says a sort of cuss jar -- a plastic "Chevy" can -- has been situated in the hallway.

GM now says Chevy Memo was poorly worded. We are now are to call them Chevy again.

Too late now! Chevy Chase already went and changed his name.

That's the only way they could find to pay back the loan!!!!!

Yes, that's too bad. I had also heard the Don McLean had already changed the lyrics to American Pie to 'Drove my Chevrolet to the levee But the levee was dry'. It just doesn't work anymore.

Good thing they backed off on the memo, rednecks can't pronounce it or spell it which would soon help them lose more interest in that dinosaur of a brand.

The people that run GM don't have a clue. They insist on running Impalas with the new NNS COT and now want everyone to stop using the term Chevy.

That’s what I meant by dinosaur of a brand. Not using the Camaro in the NNS is just flat out ignorant, they haven't updated the impala in 10 years with the exception of the SS (which was yanked when they went bankrupt), they let Pontiac flat out fail even after never pushing the G8 (the best Pontiac in decades that wasn't a rebadged Chevy) like it should have been, the list goes on and on. They are relying on name only, they have tried with the Camaro (which is ugly as crap but should have done it the second the redesigned Mustang and Charger came out) and the other soon to be failure the Volt (which I believe will fail miserably).

At the same time Ford is constantly trying to improve their product and even Dodge has taken on Fords philosophy, even though their product still suck and are on the verge of throwing in the towel, they at least try to stay modern and try to give the people what they want.

The reason I'm ranting about this so much is that I have been a Chevy fan, partially due to my father being one from the days when he purchased a brand new 57 Bel Air, for as long as I can remember. Each time I see another car company come out with something new and exciting while Chevy just gives us the same old Impala, poorly redesigned Silverado (brick on wheels), OK but nothing special Camaro, and a useless Volt, it kind of breaks my heart and pisses me off a little. The Vette is a different story, I'll give them props for that but how practical and affordable is that to the average person like me?

They are changing the name from levee to levrolet :)

You could think that a company that hires smart people would word their memos a little bit better
