Good freaking lord. He cannot be that bad to work with....

just cause his crew cheif resigned means he's hard to work with?

This will be the 5th one to either be fired or resign in the last 4 years. Makes you start to wonder at some point.

"Mike made this decision based on what was in the best interest for himself and for his family," said Eddie D'Hondt, general manager for RYR. "We obviously wish him the best in his future endeavors."

What part of that statement says that it had ANYTHING to do with DJ???

As I have stated it makes me wonder.

Todd Parrott

Brad Parrott

Sean Parker

Mike Ford

Jimmy Elledge

Richard Buck

Garth Finley

All since 2001.

Besides does anyone really think they will disclose what really might be going on?

^no, but he might just not be able to find a good crew cheif

Honestly I really think that we will tell based on DJ's comments. I remember Mike Ford once mentioning in an interview that he was trying to make DJ learn how to drive a car again with the type of setups he has been putting underneath him. Maybe it did just not work out. I can not see DJ having to adapt to another crew chief if he is only going to be around a year or two. Then again if he truely believes he has what it takes which I really think he does then maybe he feels he still does not have the right crew chief. Here goes my shout out. Jimmy Makar.

Maybe the crew chiefs don't want to be associated with Jarrett anymore. They know hes past his prime and his best days are behind him. Someone will come along, then stay for a season and move on.

People jump ship all the time.........yeah, even in NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. :) I wouldn't read so much hype into it. People tend to go where the money is.

I think he found out they really were gonna race the big brown truck and got out while the gettin was good!!

I'm with you N2. There is no way the problem with the 88 team can be the CC's. Todd, Brad, and Jimmy are all three doing very well this year with their teams. I'm not sure that DJ is hard to work for but I do think he likes his car to drive his way not the way that most of the successful teams cars drive. If you look at most of those who are doing well this year they come from Sprint car backgrounds. A sprint car loves to be driven on it's RR wheel. Until a couple of years ago the Cup cars drove mostly by the RF wheel. I think DJ likes his car to be setup using the RF. He's not comfortable with driving off the RR. I say this because of the comments the Mike Ford said last year when he said he is trying to get DJ to change the way he drives.

I think this all started back in '00 or '01 when NASCAR stopped allowing the 'bump stops' on the chassis. Todd and DJ relied heavily on this type of setup. This is the point where things started going down the tubes. Since then the 88 team has been behind the rest of the pack.

I think the CC's are frustrated knowing that DJ is not going anywhere as long as he is UPS's main man. So if DJ is staying come hell or high water they feel they have no recourse but to leave and hope for something better.

I'm not sure what the answer to all this is but I hope and pray that they get this figured out before DJ retires. I am a huge fan of DJ's and want to see him go out on top of his game.

I don't think Dale would be hard to work with, you never know someone though until you have been there.

Yeah, he has been through alot of Crew Chief's but that could mean anything.

:)

Good article. After reading this and a post on dalejarrett.com it makes me wonder if Mike's problem was more with Todd Parrot than with DJ. Several times in the article Eddie talks about the lack of sharing information. Todd has done this in the past even with his own driver. That was one of the things that caused the falling out with him and DJ. I think Todd is a great CC but not a very good team player.

We will probably never know the whole story. But I do wish Mike well and hope that the 88 team and RYR management gets this straightened out soon. Because in the words of Shane Hmiel 'He better hurry up 'cause he don't have long'.

I agree and add: The whole team picture looks sketchy.Maybe a move like Rusty's. A diffeerent package and manufacturer would help.I don't blame the CC's at all nor do I believe Dale is comfortable in his car. It is a fact that Dale likes it set up to his style of driving, not the machines calibrations..

Besides, maybe it is easy to work with DJ, just hard to work in the Yates organization.

As DEW said, people jump ship all the time. Some are just more public than others.
