Anyone read any good books about NASCAR either historical in nature or about the science of NASCAR racing more so than strict driver biographies?

I recently picked up "The Physics of NASCAR: How to Make Steel + Gas + Rubber = Speed" by Diandra Leslie Pelecky and will soon be looking for something to follow with.

Any suggestions (even biographies if they're fair and not just fluff?)

Three of my favorites:

"Full Throttle: The Life and Fast Times of Curtis Turner" was good. Provides good information on NASCAR in the late 50s and early 60s and also iron fist with which Bill France ruled it.

"Driving with the Devil." Great and entertaining book on the moonshiners who made NASCAR.

"Hard Driving: The Wendell Scott Story." Pretty straightforward, tells about the struggles Wendell Scott had to go through as an African American in the Civil Rights era.

Awesome Bill from Dawsonville My Life in NASCAR. Elliotts autobiography came out not long after he retired from full time so might be hard to find.

Driving with the Devil should be required reading for any NASCAR fan. Just an awesome book.

I am with TexasRaceLady. Flat Out And Half Turned Over by Buddy Baker and David Poole is an excellent book. It is just stories from his life. I really enjoyed it.

American Zoom is one of my favorites......

I have the 3 book set Smokey Yunick wrote..... They are a great read and gives a lot of insight into his life but they are really hard to read because he jumps back and forth all over ....... He refused to let someone help and edit ...... he wanted to write them in his own words..... he should have had a professional work with him.... also.... if you have an aversion to profanity.... you probably should just skip this read...... every 20 words are a cuss word...... LOL......

Driver #8 by dale jr. Autobiography of his rookie year.
