Andretti in the #1 longer? John Andretti said the odds are good that he will be driving the third DEI car [#1 Chevy] in a number of NASCAR races this season. The decision follows the promotion of Richie Gilmore to No. 2 man at DEI, and it comes as NASCAR faces a major shortage of cars this season because of sponsorship problems. "In the most optimistic scenario we could skip Rockingham and run the entire rest of the season," Andretti said. "Things have changed. We have decided to do more races, so we want to raise that awareness. And there has been a lot of movement in the sponsorship area, which was stale for a long time. I'm real optimistic."(Winston Salem Journal)
AND John Andretti says his #1 Chevrolet team at Dale Earnhardt Inc. likely will run at least 20 races and possibly more than 30 if a sponsor can be signed. Andretti said the new leadership team at DEI said the benefits of having a third team to help gather information during races and test sessions far outweigh the costs.(Atlanta Journal-Constitution)(2-7-2004)
this is a great move on dei's part. the 1 car can prolly run in at least the low 20's for the most part without a sponsor and maybe they can attract a sponsor so they can run fhe full schedule.
