DALLAS - Despite scheduled rolling blackouts across North Texas to relieve maxed-out power grids on Wednesday, electricity kept flowing at energy-hogging Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

According to Oncor electric delivery representative Megan Wright, the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI have asked for an exemption for the facility. The agencies said cutting power to the stadium ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl game would present a security risk, Wright said.

The Jerry Jones-owned stadium relies on a fully-automated intelligent power grid that keeps electricity flowing to its scoreboard and world's largest high-definition video screen.

Oncor said a team of 45 engineers and contractors worked for more than three years to produce the most advanced and extensive electrical infrastructure for the 3 million-square-foot complex.

The domed facility, often informally referred to as "Jerry World," is globally the largest of its kind and uses more power than most medium-sized cities, Oncor said.

During peak load the stadium runs at 21 megawatts – enough power to supply 21 Super Wal-Mart stores, according to the electric provider.

On Super Bowl Sunday, Oncor will take additional safety measures to keep Cowboys Stadium up and running. In fact, it said, hundreds of employees will work to ensure that lights stay on at and around the complex.

Electricity was such a hot commodity on Wednesday in the winter-whipped region because of exceptionally cold temperatures caused by a winter storm that began arriving in the area on Monday night

Come on did you expect anything else? The amount of money connected with the SuperBowl warrants all this, didn't you know that? Come on, the rest of the state can live in the dark for a few days, we have to have this game go on no matter what. Superbowl parties across the nation depend on it, betting people depend on it, how dare you acuse the powers that be of hogging electricity. The Superbowl Gods will reign fire upon your land for such blasphemy!!:D
