I spent most of the day trying to buy a truck. I took the wife with me to look at one I had already test driven and arranged financing on. She couldn't handle it being a stick shift. The way our driveway is situated, she would have to be able to move it often to get her van out. Her attempts to master the stick-shift went much worse than expected. By the time the day was over I was trying to buy a Taurus SHO (yes I know it is not a truck, but it was sweet! V-8, Cd & cass, completely loaded), but that didn't happen when the financing guy tried to tell me my credit was so bad I would have to pay like 17% interest. I was already approved for like half of that rate on the other truck:mad: . Oh well, there will be other days for shopping.:satisfied

Get the truck dude ...teach the wife how to drive it. My girlfriend loves the Ram 1500 4x4 we have and i usually have to beg to drive it!

I tried convincing her that she could learn to drive the stick well enough, but she isn't buying it. She did like the 2001 F-150 we test drove though. It has an auto-trans, extended cab, a/c, and the guy said he'd throw in a bed-liner and a tonneau cover. I might just go that route. It is a little more than I had planned on spending, but he is giving me one heck of a deal. I run the service department that does all of his maintenance work for his car lot.

I remember when I firsted learned to drive a stick I was scared to death. It took awhile (and a couple clutch cables :D) But I learned and have had several trucks that were stick shifts since. Get the truck, if she has to move it to get her van out she will eventually learn how to drive it. :)

I didn't mean to make it sound like the wife was completely to blame on this deal. I got the thing stuck in a driveway on a patch of ice and had a real tough time getting it out. I stalled it out a few times too. If I would have made it look easier she probably would have warmed up to the idea a whole lot better. Just to set the record straight.

Now we really know who doesn't know how to drive a stick! :) When I lived up north and had a truck, several, I always had 20 cinder blocks that I put in the back during winter time. It would get around great then.

Actually the funny thing is, I had no trouble at all driving that exact same truck from our service center to his lot just last week. That is several miles with no problem. Then when my wife was with me, I had a little trouble. It must have just not been meant to be.

The tires on it are junk. And a rear wheel drive truck up here with no weight in the back is not ideal for traction. If I bought it I would put some weight in the back and put some Goodyear Wrangler AT/S' on it.

Hey 4xer, I see that L. James has finally lost his eligibility because of two or three jerseys. Is this going to cost the school all his games? And the saga continues.

Actually just the last game. I am going to start a new thread about this. See that for more details.

I learned to drive on a stick shift. I could wheel that thing anywhere on any hill in any conditions by the time I was 9. I think that's the easiest way to learn a stick, is by learning to DRIVE on a stick. An automatic messes me up sometimes...I've almost stomped a hole in the floor of our Explorer looking for the clutch.
