Goodyear's new tire for Dover & Kurt

from the SportingNews. Will teams who have not tested this tire find the June set-ups far off? Andhow fast will this fall off compared to the "harder" tire?

Kurt Busch finished 12th at Dover in June, but his chances could improve this week having tested the new tire Goodyear manufactured specifically for the one-mile concrete track. Engineers noted that the original tire had a tendency to overheat, so they made the tread compound softer and thinner, but the construction remained the same. This should enable the tire to run cooler because the rubber will wear off quicker....

Kurt will probably share his info with all the Roush guys, maybe they have an edge this weekend.

When Alan alluded to this last night on IWC the expert panel was not at all pleased. Mikey said he had heard the new tire was 2/10ths faster on average and Kenny said something to the effect that more speed at Dover was just what they needed-he was being sarcastic.

I think they need more speed everywhere they go.:D That's how winners get to be winners don't ya know.

All a-round the con=n=crete track
The drivers chased the set up
And then with just about 50 laps in
POP goes the Goodyear.

Around and round and round they went
The tires getting thinner.
And right before it's time to pit
POP goes the Goodyear.
:D

They didn't say anything about the tire dropping off as it gets more laps on it? I bet it drops off alot. I bet we do not see a lot of 2 tire stops. I also predict that scuffed tires will by the thing this weekend.

Another verse....

All around the con-n-crete track
They're bouncing off the corners
Lower the pressure and whatta ya get?
POP goes the Goodyear.

Around and round and round they went
A beatin and a bangin
And right before it's time to pit
POP goes the Goodyear

All this talk about Goodyears is making me TIRED. OMG if that is not the funniest thing you ever read, then something else is.

I bet Rusty can still blow the right front, no matter what they make it out of.

True,Rusty could blow a locomative wheel given the chance.:D

I wish that they would go back to softer tires at all of the tracks cept Daytona and Talladega. The racing was always much better on softer tires. It came down to handling more than aero which is the case at about every place these days.

What would be ideal for the racers imo would be for nascar to once again allow the teams to run what ya brung in terms of tires.

fun scenario that has happened in the past on dirt (not sure about pavement) is cars running tires of different makes on the same car.

another fun thing of the old days was when one guy was on hard tires but not going as fast as the guy on soft. The Indy 500 was won once in just a way. The guy had a monster fuel tank and rock hard tires. Slow as a garbage truck but at the end of the day, he got to the checkers first.

I wouldn't mind seeing Hoosier come back to NASCAR. Then we can have the old tire wars again.
