got a laptop!

I got a gateway! :D

Not really sure on everything else, but im jusy happy that i got one! :)

You know why they chose the name gateway, right? Just like people say marijuana is a gateway drug to other better more powerful drugs, a gateway laptop is a gateway to other better more powerful laptops. It'll get you hooked but soon you'll be wanting something better to feed the monkey on your back.

Actually, gateways weren't bad. I had one up until earlier this year. The video board crapped out and I got a Dell to replace it.

I bought a Gateway PC in 1996 --- it was still running fine when I had my new computer built just last year. I kept waiting for it to break, but it never did.

C'mon bp, let's get it right! :) Actually, their original name was Gateway 2000 and was geared towards the new milinia and once we hit the year 2,000, the dropped that part of their name. I had one, still do but it sits idle and needs a new fan, but other than that, it's still a good little computer. Not much RAM and only a 40 meg hd, but it runs Win98 very well and I can always get it up and running any time.

now figure uot how to make it program a dirt car for the perfect lap :p

Monday night at the driveline meeting, Dr. Woods had the presentation on his jumpdrive, but the presentation computer didn't have a USB port that we could see. There was a similar port, but looked much too strange to be a USB. It was a late 90's laptop, we (3 of us techies trying to figure it all out) figured maybe it didn't have it. I have a lappy at home with Win95, no CD, no USB, only a floppy port. After going through display troubles with 2 laptops other people brought, Dr. Woods went back to the origional old one, looked at that port again, and jumpdrive plugged right in.

switched that quick?

Not by choice, gateway #1 crashed Monday, Gateway #2 had been crasing all week but bit the dust today. I would be on the net and a bluescreen would pop up. They think the gateways must be a bad batch or something.

I got a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6857
15.4 widescreen
Interl Core 2 Duo Processor
4096MB 667MHz SDRAM
360 GB 5400RPM HDD
Windows Vista Home Premium (64 bit)

Wife (and daughter) have those toshiba's. Daughter's is the next model up I think with the webcam and she got vista business edition. They're great until something goes wrong. Then Toshiba/Vista makes it damn near impossible to fix it without doing a full restore. Can't have the user screwing around with their settings can ya?

First chance I get wife gets a different laptop (sans vista) and I'm going to take her current one and put pclinuxos on it. Bye, bye, vista. Daughter in Mass and on her own <g>

Mines got a web cam to! The guy i talked to said while he has been working at Office Depot no one has brug a Toshiba back. So i hope i finaly got a good one. Thinking about getting the extended protection, just in case something else goes wrong.

Im not the biggest fan of Vista, but so far i really don't mind it. I had a computer class and had to use it in there, but i guess time will tell if i like it on my personal computer. I got a desktop thats got XP.

The thing I didn't like about the Toshibas is how hot they got while using them. I went for the HP instead since at least my desktop is still going after 8 yrs. Never had a computer last that long. Oh course, it's been replaced by a newer one and relegated to an upstairs bedroom, but it's still being used.

I was ready for all kinds of nightmares with Vista and I've had this one since March and really haven't had any problems with it.

I did go back and get the upgraded warranty that covers ANYTHING that might happen to the laptop after hearing what happened to a friend's. She only had it a few months, had it sitting on a chair, reprimanded the pup and he jumped into the chair it was on and there was no way she could catch it before it landed. The screen was toast. Cheaper to buy a new laptop than replace the screen.
