I'm so excited! I got my first-time ever NASCAR tickets for Watkins Glen. Only two more weeks!! Woooo hooooooooooo!!! :booya: :booya:

what section are you sitting in? bus stop or up high over the S/F line?

I went to the Glen back in 1990, drove from Sprinfield Ma, was a nice drive too. The track sits up in the rolling hills, really nice place, if you are planning on camping out be prepared to get very little sleep. That is of course if you don't have a nice RV and camp out in a tent like i did. Non stop partying until about 4 am then around 7am everyone starts right back up again. I got general admission tickets and was able to walk the entire course and see every corner. That was pretty cool, not sure if you can do that anymore, but if you can it is well worth it to watch how the cars enter every corner. I still have my "Million Dollar Bill" shirt that i bought at the race, in honor of Bill Elliot winning the Winston Million. Kinda small now...lol, but it is in my drawer along with Larry Bird, and a few other old sport heroes i used to admire and still do for that matter. It is usually pretty hot there too, so be prepaed for that and thunder storms in the afternoon.

I hope you really enjoy the race. There is nothing like seeing your first race. If you can get close enough to smell the rubber and exhaust and feel the rumble as a pack of those machines zoom by it is a very cool experience.

Yep especially if that rubber is landing in your beer. was able to get that close for a truck race at PPIR once, awesome experience.

I sat so close at Martinsville, several times in fact, that I actually had rubber hit me in the face. One good sized chunk left a pretty nice sized welt that I still had the next day. Awesome experience!:beerbang:

My daughter and I have seats in the red grandstands, right past turn 1 and the exit of the pits and you can see the cars as they go up until the esses. I was convinced by "regulars" to get "action seats" instead of frontstretch/finishline seats where I'd see VL (in case one of my drivers won.) If you remember last year's race, turn 1 is where Tony first wheel hopped and fell back, where Harvick and Montoya decided to play "Rockem Sockem" robots, and where *sigh* Jeff ultimately lost the race by wheel hopping with 2 laps to go. Plus, these grandstands are built up so even though we have seats in row 12, it's more like row 24 since you have to climb a flight of stairs to just get to the first row.

On Saturday, we can wander and watch the Nationwide wherever we want, so we'll probably check out other places. Even general admission tickets can use the grandstands any day but Sunday. The exceptions on Saturday are pit terrace and frontstretch. There's other grandstands they put in just for Nascar weekend, so we can sit in ones right next to the frontstretch.

Here's an idea of what we'll be seeing: Cars coming down from turn 1 (pics taken by a friend last yr. we'll be up higher)

I live about 90 mi. NE from the Glen so I'm pretty familiar with the area. Our oldest went to college near there and also moved southeast of there by about 20 mi. for several years. Although the last race I went to was in 1979 for the F1 in October in the freezing rain. I almost backed out until my brother offered his full-size Chevy van w/a bed in the back. It still was cold and wet, but fun. My brother and husband have been going almost every year since the 70s, usually for the vintage races. My husband and son went once for a Busch race when you could buy for just one day and my brothers were just there for the Indy cars.

The daughter going w/me is the only one who would face NASCAR crowds with me. She went several times from around 2001-2003, so she knows what to expect. Definitely LOTS of pictures Kell. My brother gave me a special battery charger that not only plugs in a wall, but also plugs in a car. I'm snagging extra cards from my kids to take along. I just better figure out this camera pronto. :)

Yep, I hear there's nothing like the roar, the smell and yeah, the rubber! LOL My daughter said prepare for it to be LOUD! Wooo hooo!

We're staying in a motel - I didn't feel like sleeping in the heat and/or rain with bugs and no sleep since all we have are tents. Yep, we're all set for rain, heat, whatever. You can get soaked and then burned in the same day. :)
