If you are a NASCAR car owner that is. Seems that although it was reported that violations were fewer this year than in the past Speedweeks will still yield some interesting penalties for (ahem) infractions.

From NOL:

Rumor has it that NASCAR will pass out some fines -- and possibly suspensions -- for indiscretions that occurred during Speedweeks 2003. The penalties could come as early as Thursday morning.

The fines could rival Speedweeks 2001, when more than $36,000 in fines and two suspensions were passed out.

After Bud Pole Qualifying for the 2001 Daytona 500, 18 crew chiefs were fined a total of nearly $40,000 for a variety of infractions.

It was -- and still is -- the largest number of individuals NASCAR has ever fined at once.

The driver who won the first ever NASCAR race back in 1949 was disqualified for cheating. Kind of set the tone for all the years that followed heh.

Hard to blame these guys though when the fines for cheating seem like chump change compared to the rewards for getting a good finish.
