What a shame.

Without two of the greatest gentlemen of the sport. How can that be? Johnny Benson and Ward Burton. I miss them.

At least we saw Johnny in the truck race, so we know he's all right. But what about Ward? Former winner. Serious environmentalist. Devoted family man. One of the most colorful characters.

Why? What did they do wrong?

Two guys with two great carreers. Sometimes we all are faced with limits and abilities. While we will never know for sure about the true abilities of these two guys, we do know that they were good enough to become Cup drivers. I think that they both were victims of the generation they raced. Caught between the great generation that is quickly approaching retirement, and the youngsters that are now what the sport is heading towards. I don't think that either of them were in the top notch equipment that the very best aquire, but they had a chance to be able to prove themselves and did so. I'm sure that Ward would do very well in a truck, but I'm not sure that he wants to go there. That series is quickly becoming the series for the beginners and the old vets who have been left behind in the Cup series. Sure do miss them both.

The truck series is quickly becoming the BEST racing in all of NASCAR's top series. I'm sure the Daytona crowd don't want to hear that and if they did would screw with it so it wouldn't become to popular. I'm close to the point of telling the Cup Series to kiss my butt and becoming just a truck series fan. But like I said, NASCAR will probably only screw that up too.

Wish Burton would start driving in the trucks. I like Ward,
