For the second time in just over a week, a SWAT rifle has been reported missing by a police officer in the Dallas area.
A Grand Prairie officer, whose name was not released, said his Colt M-16 automatic rifle was missing from the trunk of his squad car on Sunday. The weapon was not loaded.
According to police, the officer had responded to a suspicious-person call. When he returned to his squad car, he found the trunk slightly open. He closed it without looking inside.
At the end of his shift, he noticed the gun was missing.
Last Tuesday, a Richardson police officer reported that someone broke into his parked truck and stole his SWAT rifle. The weapon, an H-S Precision .308-caliber bolt-action rifle, was taken along with ammunition, a scope and other accessories.
In the Grand Prairie case, police said that a thief might be responsible but that it's also possible that the trunk bounced open and the rifle flew out while the officer was driving.

Can't believe they are trying to say the trunk bounced open and the rifle flew out and he never noticed
