ESPN just reported their average rating for the NASCAR Final was a 6.8, highest rated NASCAR telecast on the ESPN networks ever.

Sweet! However last year ended on a high note as well, and that wasn't enough to bring the sport back to where it was in the early 2000s. Next year will probably mirror this year ratings wise. However since Tony is the champ and not JJ it might bring back more fans.

As more and more races get moved from broadcast TV to Cable, the ratings will continue to slip. Many folks have discontinued cable or satellite TV service, seeing it as a luxury in hard times.

I switched from Dish to Cable and it's still expensive - even without any of the premium channels!

Some of my friends have canceled their cable because they can watch what they want on the internet.

That what I did. I can watch all my shows online now. I'm even considering getting a subscription to watch NASCAR races online.

Call me old school, but watching TV over the net just isn't the same for me. I like having my good ol cable and such....I would let the net go before the cable LOL

If you have a net enabled TV, it's great. There is still enough content you can't get to keep me from making the switch.

I'm glad the ratings were good but I still don't understand why NASCAR needs to be on cable. Look at the ratings among points races. FOX's lowest rating is 6 million viewers (non-cable FOX). All the other cable channels their HIGHEST rating is 6 million viewers. Stats from http://www.jayski.com/pages/tvratings2011.htm
