(NewsCore) - The question of whether "Sesame Street" puppets Bert and Ernie might get married – as thousands of online petitioners have urged – was answered with a definite no Thursday when their creators said they were just "best friends" who "do not have a sexual orientation."

More than 5,700 people have signed an online petition at Change.org urging the striped-shirt-wearing puppets, who sleep in the same room and whose sexuality has long been debated, be allowed to wed.

"We are not asking that 'Sesame Street' do anything crude or disrespectful," the petition reads. "It can be done in a tasteful way. Let us teach tolerance of those that are different."

But the non-profit Sesame Workshop said on its Facebook page Thursday there's no wedding cake in the offing.

"Bert and Ernie are best friends," the Workshop statement said. "They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves.

"Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as most Sesame Street Muppets™ do), they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation."

You mean like Glenn Beck's Summer camp for kids?

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Radio talk show host Glenn Beck criticized the notion of summer political camps for kids like the one in Norway where 68 people were killed last week, even though he has promoted similar camps in the U.S. where children are taught tea party principles.

Yea, we wouldn't want the propaganda machine getting to our kids alright.

I don't get that idea either. Who would send their kids to a camp like that? Of course, if they would, they are probably hearing most of those ideas at home as well. Kids have a lot of years to worry about politics, why start them so early that they can't filter out the crap from the relative truths?

I agree with you that we should keep the propaganda away from our children, from both sides. Children will be crushed by reality sooner or later, but god dammit people, at least let them have their childhood first.

They should have treasury camps. IE, how to pay back a loan. What good and bad credit is.

Several of my friends had their own credit cards by junior year of high school. Not mommy's, not daddy's, THEIR OWN. Hell, I got a Mastercard application when I was 16.
