Next week is Hall of Fame week. SPEED channel has a lot of coverage planned for the unveiling of the first 5 inductees into the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Tuesday, October 13th
8:00pm ET - "Dale" (repeated at 12:00am ET)
10:00pm ET - "The Ride of Their Lives" (repeated at 2:00am ET)

Wednesday, October 14th
10:00am ET - "Building the NASCAR Hall of Fame" (repeated at 6:00pm ET)
11:00am ET - "NASCAR Hall of Fame Vote"
3:00pm ET - "NASCAR Hall of Fame Announcement Preview"
4:00pm ET - "NASCAR Hall of Fame Announcement" (repeated at 8:00pm ET)

On a side note, the first artifact was moved into the NASCAR Hall of Fame yesterday. The giant Unocal 76 spotter ball was moved in 3 pieces from a restoration company in Florida to the Hall of Fame in Charlotte.

This is one of 4 spotter balls that were placed around Daytona Speedway in 1969. It provided a better view and more protection from the elements for officials and broadcast spotters. Driver spotters used other locations around the track.

When does the HoF open? I'll be in Concord for the world of outlaw finals, and if it's open, might take a trip to check it out that saturday.

I would have thought they'd wait for an announcement until it is closer to the opening date.

Actually, it makes sense this way.

If they announce the inductees with roughly 7 months before it opens, it gives them time to add exibits for each of them. Otherwise it's going to be the world's worst kept secret if they start trucking in Earnhardt's Daytona 500 winning car.

BTW, if you've never seen the "Dale" or "The Ride of Their Lives" documentaries I highly recommend them. "Dale" is the official documentary of Dale Earnhardt Sr's life. "The Ride of Their Lives" documents the history of NASCAR, and has some very rare historical footage and interviews.

Right about that. I mean look how long it took for them to open the rock n roll hall of fame in cleveland.

I've seen both. Great stuff.

I get what you're saying. I just always had envisioned it similar to the NFL Hall of Fame where the have the announcement and the game the same weekend. I had always thought the announcement would coincide with the All-Star race week.

As far as those movies, I own both and I totally agree.

What you're saying makes sense too.

This is probably only going to be for the first year. After that it wont matter when they announce the inductees since the Hall of Fame is already open. They'll probably change the date they announce inductees for future years too. The middle of October seems like an odd date.

One thing I hope they keep in future years is the fan vote. That's a major thing missing from other Hall of Fames.

All the other sports announce their HOF members long before they are actually inducted. That gives some build up to the event.
