JASON SMITH / GETTY IMAGESDenny Hamlin will sport new headgear this weekend at New Hampshire International Speedway.
Hamlin is wearing a helmet designed by a 13-year-old patient at Children's Hospital Boston. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver planned to visit the hospital today to meet with patients and staff and deliver a donation from team sponsor FedEx in the amount of $25,000.
Hamlin also planned to race remote control cars with the patients.
The helmet was designed by Moira Welch and is the fifth of 11 helmets designed by children's hospital patients and children granted wishes through the Make-A-Wish Foundation to be worn by Hamlin as part of the FedEx campaign, "Wear Your Heart On Your Helmet."
All 11 race-worn helmets will be auctioned at the end of the season, with proceeds to benefit the Victory Junction Gang Camp.
