Hamlin trying new treatment; still waiting for apology from Logano

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin is trying a new treatment on his injured back in an effort to avoid offseason surgery.
Painkiller injections in his spine the past two weeks have helped, but he won't know until the season ends if he's made enough progress to skip surgery.
"These last two weeks, I've gotten some treatment done, and I've felt as good as I did before the accident," he said. "Now, the 10 races before that, I felt horrible. I had to get out of the car at Richmond during practice because I just couldn't handle it anymore, and there's been several instances where it was really, really bad.

Meanwhile, he said he and Logano have still not spoken since their accident. Logano did reach out to Hamlin shortly before the Chase began when Logano was still racing for a spot in the 12-driver field. Hamlin said Logano left him a voice mail, and when Hamlin returned the call, Logano didn't answer.
"My guess is someone told him to call me, probably Roger Penske, and told him to make things right between us before it was too late," Hamlin said. "There just is nothing to say until there's an apology. Until then, he's going to know every time I'm behind him. I'm never going to give him an inch. Every time he tries to pass me, I'm never going to give him an inch. And someone had to tell him that's going to be a hard way to race through the Chase, so I'm guessing that's why he tried to call me."

I don't blame Hamlin for holding a grudge, but that 'never going to give him an inch' thing is what got him put into the wall in the first place.

The last time Denny went on a rant like that against another driver, the guy he decided to race like that went on to win the championship. Denny really showed that guy.

Let it go, Denny.
 
Hamlin had always been kind of a bully to Logano. Just like in the schoolyard, when a bully picks on a kid enough, eventually that kid is gonna haul off and punch the bully square in the mouth, which is what Logano metaphorically did to Hamlin at Fontana. IMO, Joey doesn't owe Denny an apology.
 
What? What? Logano is the one who needs to apologize here? The heck?

This Denny dude is so full of himself. When next you're crashed against a wall, dont go crying Hamlin.

Talk about painting a target on your back. Although I doubt Logano would risk any more incident with him but I also doubt he wouldn't move him out of the way without a second though.

I'm team Logano here.

I agree, but because I still think Denny turned left at the last second to turn Logano in the outside wall. If Denny were to lose to that race, it wasn't going to be by getting beat head-to-head by Sliced Bread. And he consequently put himself in the inside wall.
 
Hamlin milking the story. New treatment? bull crap, they have been shooting up athletes for years, heck I got shot up a time or two myself in my back years ago. How long is Gibbs going to buy this excuse, his bunch knows all about injury. Better get back in the game dude, the clock is ticking.

I thought that too. honestly I think it was just racing on the last lap of the race. if joey was going to wreck him there was alot easier ways to do it. denny has way too big of an ego
 
Well, I'll be the first to say. I don't care what type of athlete you are or what you do.

Back injuries are detrimental, but I'll give Denny the benefit of the doubt. I want to see more out of him next year and with the performances of Busch and Kenseth this year, he better step up real quick or get replaced.

That accident and those moments between Stewart and Hamlin were Joey Logano stepping up to say, "I'm here to race and win". I like the guy and has immense potential and with his perfomances in the 22. He'll continue to get better.

Hamlin is on notice on my list until he steps up.
 
Didn't Gordon had back problems some years back? Even brought up the idea of retiring prematurly because of it. Not saying is the same case with Hamlin but if a battled Gordon in his late 30s could not only drive a car but contend for wins, why cant Denny be at least decent in it? Hamlin is a young dude still so I dont know why he's whining about this so much. Step up or shut up.
 
Sigh. I was just getting ready to defend Denny in the other thread. This guy...:rolleyes:

I know drivers have a great long term memory and all, but I thought this deal was long since over and done with. I remember when Denny was in the booth on Fox at Talladega and Chris Myers tried to bait him into talking about Joey, and he did the right thing, took the high road and kept his mouth shut.

He needs to do that again.

Welcome to the forum Kiante . Love the Haines City area , my father in law had a place there for years .We've been vacationing in the Davenport area lately . Go to any local races in your area?
 
Hamlin just needs to get the surgery then. He's trying to avoid it, but I would just tell him to cut his losses and just get the surgery. Treatment is good, but treatment is just that something to

Auburndale's local track a couple of times, Lakeland Speedway when the Hooters series was big, Sebring and others. Just don't have the time like I used to.

You love this area? I've lived here all of my life and I've just grown tired of it. I really appreciate the warm welcome as well because I'm enjoying the forum so far.
 
I don't see why their needs to be apology. Not that Logano doesn't take some blame but they're not teammates, they haven't wrecked each other since so that shows that they're pros.

Let them hate each other. Better for the fans.

i don't ever recall Rusty liking a teammate . It was always team Rusty .
 
I hope Joeys response is something like... "Well I usually don't see him, so its not a factor..." No words have blown up in someones face like those have for a while lol... I duno from what Ive seen Denny doesn't give Joey a hard time on track... but its tough when ur riding 15th and the guy u want to race hard is half the track ahead of you.

As it should be lol. Teammates are nice but the goal of a race is to win. You don't need to be pals off the track to race professionally. This generation that I'm apart of is a bunch of pansies. Man up Denny, forget about an apology and outdrive Joey.. Oh wait you can't cause your back hurts wah..lol
 
His own words will come back to bite him. Those being saying he'll never give an inch.
Should there ever be 100% purely incidental contact lagano and his team will be screaming into Nascar's ear. Even if purely accidental those words will weigh heavily against hamlin.

Trouble is , Joey has a teammate so it's like two against one .
 
The "New treatment" needs to be between his ears, saying he is driving "less than" equipment puts the heat on his boss Gibbs who doesn't need any questions from his sponsors. And then he runs in the back of the pack, or wrecks all by himself? I won't be surprised at contract renewal time if he is a free agent. The way the Gibbs cars are running lately, it shouldn't be a problem finding a driver.

Yeah, he signed a multi year contract last year..that could be anything from two years or more. I bet if he has another year like this one, and running his mouth, we will all be making that prediction.

I think that he's this years Kurt Busch . Has a lot of problems , but is still a damn fine driver .

Yeah, I'd go for this:

Pending an apology from Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin to drive 3rd Cup car for Penske in 2015 as well as share NWS ride with new, old teammate Logano.

When asked for his take on it, 3rd Penske driver Brad Keselowski replied that it would be the greatest day in the history of Twitter and that he's hoping to have Twitter as the primary sponsor on all of the Penske cars in the near future.

I'd be very surprised given Denny's past performance. This is really his first bad year in Cup, it also happens to coincide with an injury and his ego and smugness reaching new highs.

I've never liked the guy one bit, always thought he was a pompous ass but there should be no question about his abilities. If he was let go by Gibbs then I'm sure there would be a long list of teams eager to sign him. He'd instantly be the best driver at teams like Roush or RCR.
 
Anyone remember a few years back when he pinched Kyle Busch into the wall at Charlotte during the All-Star race? After Kyle went berserk, Denny went on to say how Kyle needs to grow up yada yada yada. Well with Kyle in 2nd and looking to be a legit title threat and Denny mired in 25th, the irony is oh so delicious, to say the least.

There was a bit more to that crash than Hamlin simply turning it into the wall.
 
Kids, this is why you shouldnt be a douchebag and actually take time off. If I was Gibbs, if Denny has another season like this, I would give him the boot and really try to talk him into getting the surgery.

Team Joey all the way. Even before this season happened, I didnt like Hamlin, but he is now my least favorite full time cup driver (well him or Montoya). Happy king douche?
