Porsche has announced the passing of Hans Herrmann at the age of 97. Together with Richard Attwood, Herrmann got Porsche's first victory at the Le Mans 24 Hour race in 1970 and retired from racing after the win.
He also has 18 F1 starts to his name with a best finish of 3rd for the Mercedes factory team at the 1954 Swiss Grand Prix.
He famously survived a flip at the 1959 German GP with no major injuries, earning him the nickname "Hans im Glück"(lucky Hans).
