Happy Thanksgiving

Hope all here have a great and safe Thanksgiving. Below are Wild Osceola Turkeys on my hunting lease here in Florida.

I guess it is legal to hunt under a feeder in Florida lol.

I had a feeling when I posted this photo some smart ass would have to make a da remark.

That is a Trail camera photo. Apparently you know nothing about Florida Hunting laws, which doesn't surprise me. Note the date of the photo1-22-22. The season is 2.5 month away.

To help you have a grasp on reality I will explain Florida Turkey Hunting law. It is illegal to hunt within 100 yards of an active feeder. On our lease we empty all feeders 45 days prior to the open of Turkey season, thus eliminating the active feeder issue.. For the uninformed, such as yourself, this breaks the patterning of the birds and makes for an ethical hunt, with the hunter using his skills to call birds in range of harvest.

I put the photo up as a fun photo showing birds in the wild for Thanksgiving.

Why are you feeding them in the first place? Ya just like fat turkeys and deer to look at?

We feed them to supply additional protein supplements to assist in overall flock and herd health and reproductive needs. Feeding also allows us to keep an eye on herd and flock health and numbers. We also work on habitat for them also. It is not always about harvesting something, however, ever Deer or Gobbler harvested during hunting season is consumed by the hunter and or his friends or family..

My meal on Thanksgiving day will be Venison back strap, Bob White Quail and Wild Turkey Breast I harvested, along with all the trimmings.

Hope you have a great Thanksgiving as well.

Bob White Quail
How's the quail population there? I'll see or hear two or three a year in central SC. The coastal areas are better, except when some overprotective leases and clubs use them as an excuse to shoot raptors.

They are tasty little birds!

Wild Quail are far and few between, we have several cuvees of wild birds on the lease along old fence rows, a farorite place for them, good cover. Most of the quail hunts here in Florida and South Georgia are release bird hunts which, when managed correctly are really good hunts. There is a perception that release birds are easy but, if managed correctly at the hatchery with fly ways and repeated effort to make them fly, the hunts are really good. I try and go at least twice during the season.

We do not shoot hawks. A lot of wild bird plantations try to eliminate all predictors. We do work on coyotes and coons.

Hope everyone has had a great day of giving thanks. Some days are diamonds, some days are stones, but the good Lord gives us all so much to be thankful for.

And I am thankful for every one of you on this board. What a great way to enjoy sharing this sport with passionate racing fans.
