I decided to create a Winter Solstice thread as to show respect to the Christians and their Christmas thread. Don't want people to think I'm hijacking the thread about the birth of their savior.

So, today is the Winter Solstice, the shortest day, longest night of the year. Today is a very important day to several pagans of various pagan faith around the world.

This is a good article about today's celebration. As for me, I have to work tow shifts today and then do a taxi service by taking a dog home. However, after work and the taxi, I do plan on holding a small solitary celebration myself. Alcohol (mead or ale, whichever is cheaper) may be involved.

So to everyone on R-F.com, I wish you all a Merry Winter Solstice.

Thank You. I do wish people would quit referring to Christmas as Jesus birthday, it is a fraud. The bible never mentions a date for his birth and that is because his birth has no meaning while his death means every thing for mankind.

So to All, I wish you a happy holiday.

Short days are horrible! I go hiking and before I know it, I have to get in the car and head home because it's too dark. Bring on the longer days!!

I am Christian but also believe in most Pagan beliefs. I am mixed up for sure and looking for answers to my life. Aren't we all? But I do believe that Jesus was born since he died for us. The date is really not as important as the birth itself. Christians picked a date centuries ago to celebrate. So I also chose to honor that date. None of us really can go back to the real date of Jesus's birth or to the first Winter Solstice to know what really happened and why. We chose to believe. My first ritual was a New Moon. And I walked away knowing it was right and good and the good I felt followed me. I believe.

My reply: December 25th, in most of the Christian world, is the chosen day to celebrate the birth of Christ. In Russia it is January 6th, but, who cares when or what date, as long as we celebrate the birth of Christ.

Good honest replies. So you celebrate his (Christ) birthday ( regardless of when it actually was ) because his death meant everything for mankind ?

Next: why do we celebrate our own birthday every year on the same day each year and yet if your married you don't celebrate your wedding day each year?

If you celebrate the ANNIVERSARY of your wedding day, then why don't you celebrate the ANNIVERSARY of the day you were born?

:)

I came to this thread to wish Pagan a Happy Solstice which I am doing. I hope it brings good things for you Pagan.

It's a damn shame somebody has to try and ruin a congratulatory thread just for their own amusement.
