The New England 300
300 laps / 317 miles / Race #19 of 36-race Winston Cup Series
New Hampshire International Speedway, Loudon. NH
1.058-mile oval

Sunday, July 20 / 2:00 p.m; TNT

2002 Pole Sitter: Bill Elliott
2002 Winner: Ward Burton (Ward22 has to be very excited this time of year)

- Jeff Gordon won this event in 1995. He retook second place in the Championship point standings to leader Matt Kenseth after the Chicagoland race. He took the mid-race leader bonus there as well.

- Tony Stewart won this event in 2000. He is on a hot streak, taking 8th place in the point standings and finishing second in last weeks Chicagoland race.

- Dale Earnhardt Jr's best finish at Loudon is a 9th recorded in July 2001. He fell to third in the points standings after suffering a crash at Chicagoland is now 258 points out of the points lead. He lead last year at Loudon 3 times for 43 laps and was on his way to a top 5 until a late race crash with none other than error prone Todd Bodine.

- Dale Jarrett won this event in 2001. He has fallen back to 29th since his win at Rockingham Speedway earlier this season and is looking for his first top 5 since then. Jarrett since then has also undergone numerous crew chief changes.

- Robby Gordon won at New Hampshire in 2001, the final race of that season which was delayed because of the September terror attacks. Robby hopes to add his second win of the season here at Loudon.

- Kevin Harvick is no stranger to good finishes here at Loudon. "Happy" Harvick's best finish here at Loudon was an 8th recorded in 2001 and finished 9th in the same event the year after. His best qualifying round here at Loudon is a fourth during the latter event at Loudon in 2001. He currently is 7th in the points.

- Points leader Matt Kenseth finished 1 lap down in 12th at Chicagoland. His closest competitor in the Points standings is Jeff Gordon at 165 points

- Ward Burton won this event in 2002. So far, he has had an average season and is 21st in the points standings.

- Michael Waltrip is another driver on a hot streak, he recorded a top 5 at Chicagoland adding to a top 10 at Daytona and a top 20 at Infineon

- DRIVER CHANGE: John Andretti will replace Jack Sprague in the #0 for the next 2 NASCAR races. Andretti will not drive it at the Brickyard 400 because he will drive the #81 Kraft Chevrolet for Dale Earnhardt Jr's team Chance 2 Motorsports in that race. Sprague at the time of his release from Haas CNC Racing had been 37th in the point standings whereas John Andretti is only 146 points behind Sprague in 39th.

- Chevrolet currently leads the manufacturers point standings at 127 followed by Ford at 115, Dodge at 87 and Pontiac at 67.

- The past few years, the New England 300 has seen better weather than it's latter event. You dont have to look it up because I just did, cheap Bill Weber.

- The No-tossing gas can rule is still in effect, it was put into effect during the Chicagoland race and teams on a green flag pit stop will have to come in for a stop-and-go penalty if it is committed during race-day.

- Finally some Happy news for Happy's notes. Jerry Nadeau who was injured at Richmond will make an appearance here at Loudon to help boost morale for the #01 US Army Pontiac team. It will be the first visit for Nadeau back to a racetrack since that accident.
