Hendersonville, NC. -- For Immediate Release
The UARA-STARS are gearing up for their 2007 season opener at the famed Hickory Motor Speedway with the Bad Boy Mowers 150 presented by Corriher Implement Company Saturday March 17, 2007. Bad Boy Mowers and New Holland Tractors will have a display of their equipment on hand for the fans to take a good look at. Ted Corriher of Corriher Implement Company is a past driver at Hickory Motor Speedway and sponsored Greg Marlowe in 2002 when Marlowe won the ARA championship.
Two of Hickory’s native sons that have made great names for themselves will be on hand to help the UARA kick off the year. NASCAR Legend Harry Gant and current Craftsman Truck Series regular Dennis Setzer will be on hand to help welcome the fans to what promises to be some of the most exciting short track racing in the Southeast. Gant and Setzer will be present during the pre-race autograph session-a UARA tradition.
Harry Gant and Dennis Setzer are both familiar faces to Hickory Motor Speedway. They raced early in their careers under the watchful eye of one of short tracks best car owners, the late Ken “Pop” Sigmon. The 77 car they drove was a very familiar sight in victory lane for both of these awesome drivers.
Gant and Setzer will start the day out at an open house at Corriher Implement Company where there will be refreshments from 11:00 til 1:30. Gant and Setzer will be there signing autographs from 12:00 til 1:00. Factory representatives will be on hand to answer question about various equipment that Corriher supplies.
2006 points runner up Alex Yontz has his sights set on being in the top spot for 2007 but he will have his work cut out for him. 2006 Melling Rookie of the Year Barry Andrews has high hopes as well. 2003 UARA champion Lee Tissot hopes to be the first repeat champion. Tissot has teamed up with car owner Stan Robinson and in the final races of 2006 they proved that they will be a force to reckon with.
The STARS will shine with many new faces in 2007coming from as far away as Texas and Louisiana. The Melling Select Rookie chase should be just as intense in 2007 as it was in 2006.
The UARA is pleased to announce the purchase of an electronic scoring system. The use of this transponder scoring system will be of a great benefit to the racers alleviating their need to scurry looking for scorers before each event.
Along with the 150 lap special event the Inex Thunder Roadsters and Legend cars will be on hand to complete the program.
General admission will be $15.00 for adults, $10.00 for students 10-16 years old and children under 9 will be admitted free with a paying adult.
Grandstand Gates open at 2:00 with qualifying starting at 3:15.
