Bad year for the WC. Kez would be in second with 2049. I don't think it turned out the way the Brain figured.

The #2 team took what could have been a bad day and ended it pretty good. They really dodged a bullet. I've never heard Kez get that irate in the car about the setup, but he hung in there.

Joonyers leading the Hendrick brigade? Is he77 freezing over?

Too early to say, although I wouldn't mind Harvick winning the cup.
Anyone think Hamlin can pull out of a deep hole (41 points) without a miracle.

Nope. He couldn't get his head together this year at all. That team will be ripped apart and put back together in the off season. JD needs to take a page from Hendricks playbook.

Jr's 3rd at Chicago!! Chase!

JOLIET, Ill. - Dale Earnhardt Jr. got his 2011 championship campaign off to a good start on Monday when he finished third in the GEICO 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.

Earnhardt started 19th and worked his way to the front pack in the late going, eventually taking advantage of several drivers running out of fuel to score his first top-five finish of the season since finishing second at Kansas Speedway in June.

“Obviously we gained a lot of spots there at the end with guys that were short of fuel,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “But we were running really well at the end. The car struggled off and on throughout the day. And we didn't have great track position either. But at the end the car was really good. And I think we were up in the top ten there.

“So real happy with being able to adjust the car, improve it. That's all you can ask for as a driver, that the car gets better all day long. “

Earnhardt came into the Chase as the No. 10 seed, but shot up to fifth after his performance in Monday’s rain-delayed race at Chicagoland.

He credited his pit crew for putting the No. 88 AMP Energy/National Guard Chevrolet in contention in the 267-lap race.

“I gotta thank the team, first off we had really really good pit stops all day long, those guys have worked hard to try to improve and they really did today,” Earnhardt Jr. said.

This year marks Earnhardt Jr’s fourth appearance in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup and second behind the wheel of the No. 88 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports. His Chicagoland finish equals his best finish to start the Chase since 2004 when he raced for Dale Earnhardt, Inc.

He was 13th in the 2006 Chase opener and fifth in 2008, his first season with Hendrick Motorsports.

“Happy to run third, happy to maximize our potential today, start thinking and working on the next one,” Earnhardt said of his Chase approach.

Is this Denny's last year on his contract?

I don't think so. I'm thinking more of what Rick with drivers and CC's, but even that wont fix the 11 crew. Denny and Zippy could work. Who knows, Ford might be able to wake Joey up. Kyle's team just had an off day.

What I think is funny is this point system was mean to make things more simple and the chase is being billed as possible the "closest" of all time...yet we are already talking about one guy who is probably eliminated from the chase already...I don't remember feeling that ANYONE was completely out after the first chase race in years past.

With the new points system it is EXTREMELY hard to dig out of a hole...and Hamlin is not the only one that I think may be in trouble...I think both Kenseth and Gordon are going to have to do some serious WINNING to over come 24-25 points with this system along with the guys in front of them having a bad race along the way....

I'm not worried about Gordon because he's been pretty consistent for the most part. Denny on the other hand has been all over the map.

Yeah, you are right there. No way that Hamlin is coming back up. I still think, tho, that consistency is king..but ever who wins this thing is gonna have to win and more than one to bring it home unless someone goes out and finishes in the top 5 ever single week lol

Skrub's already in 9th?? LMAO!! :beerbang::beerbang::beerbang:

Anybody here think that it's out of the question for Pee Wee to win 3 or 4 of the final 9 races? I sure as hell don't... ;)

As for Harvick, well, all I can say is it's early yet! :D

Kyle can easily pull it off, that kid can drive. On the other hand after today Hamlin will be his own worst enemy. the first sign of anything going wrong and he will lose it.
A great driver but he tries too hard.

Watched Wind Tunnel last night, seems Larry Mac thinks Jr may have a chance? Would be nice, still pulling for Kurt though.---John

Gordon and Kyle are far from out of it, because they have been running so good. Didn't Brad make up 30+ points on first place in 6 races?

If Kyle keeps his head together, he's still in good shape. It's good he didn't over drive the car and wreck tonight.

Denny limps into the chase and limps out. Stewart and Jr limped into the chase and busted out today.

My money's still on Kyle. We'll see though, statistically, he's never done well at the Chase tracks.

If he's gonna win it, this has to be his bad race. We all know how Jimmie steps it up during the Chase. Gotta remember with the new points system, Jimmie and Kyle are already a half race back. If either have a bad race and Harvick, Smoke and Carl keep it going, they're done.

???????????????WTH???????????????????????????

Thanks for the welcome robbybee. I think, and this is just an unfounded hunch, that it's going to be between Happy, Kyle, and Jr. No way to justify this it's just a wild hunch. I also think I am going to win the Lottery, yeah, right!---John

Welcome John.

Under the old system, they'd still be half a race back. Kyle would actually be in worse shape under the old system than he is now. His 12 bonus points were worth 12 positions. Under the old format, he would have had 40 bonus points worth about 9 positions (5 top 5's and 4 top 10's).

Welcome aboard John.

Ok guys...my eyesight has always been very poor, but did my eyes fail me or did I just read somone thinks Jr. has a chance at the title!

^LOL^ Yeah, Joonyer still has a chance! :D

Ok I will give him credit, he is up there in points after 1 race....but I think he has about as much chance of winning the championship as I do winning it sitting here in front of this computer! lol

You might be right - but until he's eliminated he still has a chance! :D:D

If it's Jr, great, awesome. If it's Harvick, great awesome as well. I think the motto this year for everyone is anyone but Jimmie!

I think the motto this year for everyone is anyone but Jimmie!

Dang, that motto just started this year? I've been living that motto since he put the second one in the record books. :D

Like you say, whoever wins will be just fine. Let's just have it be someone other than JJ. Sorry to his fans but this has grown quite old. I liken it to eating oatmeal for breakfast 5 years in a row, day after day. After a while, it's time for a change.

Harvick's paintjob was awesome, Budweiser should've saved that one for either Talladega or Charlotte...

Thanks to all for the welcomes. As for Kurt he has his moments,
I haven't seen any driver yet who hasn't said or done something
a bit out of the ordinary. They are human, or suppose to be, and that
gives them the excuse to do the things they do, I guess. I just picked
Kurt years ago and stuck with him even through the stoopid moves he's
done to Smoke, Jimmy and others. I guess it's like Mr Potato Head, you can
change their looks but they are what they are.---John

Then the other drivers should step up their games. The Championship shouldn't just be handed to them just because the fans are tired of seeing Johnson winning the Championship.

I agree. I simply said I'm tired of watching JJ win. I never said anything about someone handing the championship to another driver.

Harvick is leading the points?

Why, he must be the best driver in the world :D
