Harvick/Edwards confrontation: UPDATE: hearing there was a confrontation in the Nationwide Series garages at Lowe's Motor Speedway between Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick over last Sunday's Talladega wreck. Details as they are found will be posted.(PRN's Garage Pass Radio Show)(10-9-2008)
UPDATE: Witnesses said Edwards approached Harvick in the garage stall housing Harvick's #33 Chevy and engaged in conversation. Following what a witness called a heated discussion, Harvick turned to walk away and Edwards grabbed him by the shoulder and spun him around. According to reports Harvick then shoved Edwards in retaliation, forcing Edwards onto the hood of the #33 Chevy. #33 crew chief Rick Ren pointed to a dent in the hood where he said Edwards landed. Others on site then proceeded to separate the drivers, and witnesses said Edwards was grabbed around the neck in a headlock by Harvick's motor-home driver, Jeff Smith. No punches were thrown, witnesses said. NASCAR did not immediately comment on the issue. Edwards and Harvick were not immediately available to comment. Witnesses claim the verbal exchange Thursday was in reference to a handwritten note Edwards left in a seat on Harvick's airplane following the AMP Energy 500 last weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. The note facetiously thanked Harvick for disparaging comments he made toward Edwards on ABC following a multi-car wreck on Lap 174 of 188, which was triggered when Edwards tapped teammate Greg Biffle. Harvick was collected in the incident.(ESPN)(10-9-2008)

I miss this side of Harvick. :)

CONCORD, N.C. (AP)—Greg Biffle isn’t angry with teammate Carl Edwards for starting a 12-car crash at Talladega Superspeedway.

Neither is Matt Kenseth.

Kevin Harvick? Not quite over it.

Witnesses said Edwards and Harvick scuffled Thursday in the Nationwide Series garage at Lowe’s Motor Speedway after Edwards walked into Harvick’s garage stall and the two engaged in a heated argument.

Harvick appeared to try to walk away but, witnesses said, Edwards reached for his shoulder to turn him back around. Harvick then shoved Edwards, who stumbled onto the hood of Harvick’s car, and the two had to be separated.

Witnesses claimed a member of Harvick’s crew had Edwards in a headlock as numerous people tried to separate the two.

Harvick was unavailable for comment.

Edwards didn’t deny the two argued, but wouldn’t discuss the incident.

“The deal with me and Harvick is between me and him and there’s nothing else to talk about,” he said. “I’m not talking about that. That’s just what it is. We know where each other stand and that’s it.”

Although photographers from CIA Stock Photography and Lowe’s Motor Speedway caught the moment, both refused to show the photos to The Associated Press and said they had no plans to publish the pictures.

Edwards triggered the late crash Sunday when he tried to push Biffle as the three Roush Fenway Racing cars competed raced for the lead. But his bumper hooked the corner of Biffle’s, sending Biffle into a slide directly into Kenseth.

Several championship contenders were caught in the melee, including Harvick, who had harsh words for Edwards and his strategy after the accident.

“I know that his fans won’t be very proud of him sitting back there riding around like a pansy,” Harvick said in a national TV interview. “If he had been racing all day, maybe he would have known how long the front of his car was.”

The Charlotte Observer obtained a photo of a handwritten note Edwards gave Harvick’s pilot before leaving Talladega.

In it, he used an expletive to “thank” Harvick for criticizing him on TV and sarcastically added, “I was really trying to screw up everyone’s day. Love, Carl.”

Biffle and Kenseth were upset with their teammate immediately following the accident, but said they were over it by the time they got to Lowe’s.

“We can point fingers all day about what happened,” Biffle said. “He understands that he made a mistake and there’s nothing we can do about that now. Certainly he didn’t want to wreck himself, because that’s what he did, he wrecked himself.

“I don’t know what else to state about it, but I’m not mad at him.”

Kenseth, who argued with Edwards last fall at Martinsville, said he was initially upset about the accident but had moved past it.

“Our relationship is fine,” Kenseth said. “I was disappointed. I thought that Carl knew better. He’s been preaching the stuff about being careful and working together and teammates and all this stuff, so I was disappointed it happened, but yet it was an accident and that stuff will happen.”

Harvick must have a death wish. Carl could wrap his pencil neck into a pretzel.

By the rules in any other pit Edwards is guilty for the whole thing cause he walked into harvicks pit. Of couse NASCAR is stupid and gonna make it look like to us that they actually did something. Sounds like ESPN is at fault for playing havick over tv like that assuming that is how edwards heard it.

but its great to hear good old harvick is back lol.

1st let me say I like Edwards but I don't see where Harvick did anything wrong. Being taken out most drivers are going to be upset. That Edwards didn't want to recognize that is wrong. Also wrong is if he left a note on the plane. He should have waited until he could talk to Harvick in person and not some sarcastic note saying as he didn't appreciate the comments. Then to go into Harvick's pit was just stupid. Sure he needed to reach out but maybe not this way.

He didn't go to the pits, the altercation took place in the N'Wide garage area. Carl did take responsibility for the T'Dega wreck. The note was immature, but it's just two very good racecar drivers with a disagreement. I expect it'll blow over and won't spill out onto the racing surface.

no but im sure we will have to hear espn talk about it every 5 seconds all weekend.

So Eddie Haskell strikes again. Poor Eddie was worried about his character being damaged and his feelings hurt. He wrote a note thanking Kevin for "mother effing him on TV" The evil side of Eddie decides to show himself several days later even though Kevin had put it behind him. Good for Kevin to not Matt Kenseth the situation by flinching when Cousin Carl struck.

Cousin Carl's dark side comes out again. :D

The roids are getting to his head.

This was speculated on back in '06. Then he comes out and denies steriod use, sterioids are banned by Nascar, in '07. But, with the reporters looking at his infamous run-ins with Lil'E, Stewart, Kenseth and others some aren't convinced. He has either not been tested or he didn't test positive. Nascar only releases names if they test positive. They seldom if ever say who's been tested.

See here. This is just pure speculation however in this attached picture Kevin and Carl are obviously in Kevin's Nationwide pit stall as you can see the Camping World tool box behind him. So my guess is this picture was taken before things got heated. Kevin appears to be chipper. Although Carl's back is to the picture I would bet that he has a pissed look on his face.

I read somewhere they were only 2 cars away from one another in the garage. This happened in the garage, not a pit stall. The cars were stuck in the garage because of the rain.

No its one very good driver and then Carl.....

Jusy because somebody looses their temper once in a while doesn't mean that they are on steroids. Could it be that they are only human?

Or it could be that he's an a**hole. Plus it was a joke.

:XXROFL:

I remember that race!

Man, I miss the trio of Allen, Benny and Wally in the race. I don't know what was funnier: The altercation on pit road or the commentary of the altercation from the old NBC gang. :D

I thought the whole thing was a put on since there was no video or photo evidence of it. But there is finally a photo of it. Interesting it took so long for it to come out.
