KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Gil Martin, crew chief for Winston Cup driver Kevin Harvick's No. 29 Chevrolet, returned to his home in Concord, N.C., Saturday after being diagnosed with acute bronchitis. Martin has been fighting the condition all week.
Harvick, car owner Richard Childress and car chief Scott Naset will assist in calling the race in Martin's absence. Martin is expected back for next Sunday’s race at Talladega, Ala.

"We'd rather have Gil go home and get better so that he's ready and healthy for the remainder of the season," Childress said. "It was a decision we all talked about and we look forward to seeing him back next week."

Health comes before racing, hopefully he get healthy soon and come back to the track to help 'Happy'.

It's never good to try doing stuff while sick...more then likely then the person just gets worse and it out longer then they would be if they would just take a break from the start.

Harvicks crew chief has had this ilness for most of the season and didn't tell anybody. That is why Harvick hasn't run so well this year. Of course I'm just speculating but the story sounds familiar. (hint, hint, JR, JR, wink, wink)

Yeah except Harvick has only had Gil Martin as a crew chief for half the year, so that speculation might be a bit incorrect.

Happy needs a lot of help this year, and with Martin he was finally starting to turn it aroumd. Hopefully Martin will get better soon.
