From Thats racin:

Kevin Harvick initially qualified fourth fastest, but his speed was disallowed following post-race inspection when it was determined his No. 29 Chevrolet was not carrying a full fuel load during his qualifying laps, which is a new requirement this season.

Harvick's fuel pump had been altered to make it appear like it was full, said John Darby, Nextel Cup Series director. A more extensive penalty may be issued next week.

I smell a point deduction and suspension of his crew chief Todd Barrier

I don't see a deduction in points. They would have to be illegal during the actual race for that....I think. However , I'm sure a fine will be handed down.

well, he was only four gallons off, but I bet that would make a big difference in quals. It's a shame too, he had a good spot.

Real shame. This is not a case of stretching the rules.

Inspections are getting tougher all the time. I don't know why some try to cheat. Sure not worth is, is it?

Speaking of rules, I am wondering why it is that if they qualfied yesterday that they were showing what appeared to be a happy hour practice this afternoon?I thought they would impound the cars after qualifying?

Just look at the fines and point deductions already this year, those cars didn't race with the illeagal parts either. They were found and confiscated before the race, most of them before qualifing. I'll bet this will be bigger than most as it was a deliberate attempt to cheat.

Not all the tracks are impounding the cars after quals..........evidently Las Vegas is one of those that aren't.

I say it will cost Harvick about 10 grand and 25 points. It will cost the Crew Cheif about 25 grand.

Not all tracks are using the impound after qualifying. Some of the tracks, Las Vegas and Texas are two of them, that had already set the track schedules. I KNOW that at Texas, O'Reilly Auto Parts sponsors the qualifying events, and SMI didn't feel that it was right to make the change on such a short notice. I believe that that will change for the 2006 season. :(

Thanks DE and Maj, I think It makes sense to allow a track to stick with a planned schedule for the weekend. Are the teams allowed to make any changes such as shocks, springs etc. or is it just the minimal, tire pressure and such.
Just so I don't get away from the subject at hand, I also believe RCR will be handed a big fine and points deduction. This is not normal for RCR, Childress must be pissed.

racer8, I believe that they can do anything to the car just as they were able to prior to the implementation of the impound rule, excluding the one motor/tranny rule. Now, please, that is just an assumption on my part as I'm not absolutely sure.

Thanks for the info, I would never want to hold you to anything being absolute, after all Nascar may just change the rules again next week.

I would guess its because of all of the people that show up to watch qualifying and practice @ LV. They're not going to turn away a paying customer if there's a buck to be made...

They did not bend the rules, they tried really hard to cheat. I would have sent them packing right there.

I think he only had 4 gallons in there.
