Red is Dead



Teachers at an elementary school in England have been told to stop using red ink to mark up their students’ papers because it has negative connotations, reports the BBC.

In the future, kids at Uplands Manor Primary School in the West Midlands will have their mistakes noted in green ink. Penny Penn-Howard, head of school improvement for the district, said red "can be seen as a negative approach to improving pupils' work."

But Nick Seaton, chairman of the Campaign for Real Education, said red ink is effective. "Children have to learn to take life's ups and downs," he said. "Banning red ink is a rather trendy and politically correct idea."
 
You know I am so sick of everything having to be PC! This is just asinine! So now teachers use green, what's next they have to draw a smile face next to the wrong answers? Please. Kids these days have it so easy....Back in my day I walked to school barefoot, up hill both ways.... Kidding haha, but really, so the teacher uses a red pen, what is the kid going to need therapy for the rest of his/her life? GET OVER IT!
 
I agree with banning red ink. My teachers did that all the time and now I'm so depressed with my life because of the red ink. I sure wish they had used green because I would feel better about my self...

red is easer for the kids and parents to red then green.

deedee.....no whats next is you cant fail the teachers will just say "just try better next time" and thats the truth some school have got the grades set to where you cant fail. no wonder us kids are stupid. its the damn system.

I totally agree Lap3, the system is so messed up, and so many kids today, know how too work it all to well. It just amazes me that someone can actually say using a red pen to mark wrong answers can be politically incorrect.
 
Sheesh, what's wrong with RED?? It is considered a stimulating color, and certainly gets attention much quicker than GREEN, which means GO.

They have prescriptions for that, maybe it's time to see the doctor.
 
Yeh it is getting out of hand just like now kids can't play dodge ball. Come on....that was like the greaest game! Competition makes kids better, when i was a kid and you went out for little league, there were always a few kids that didn't make the team. When we had pick up games though we always included these guys in our games. It just encouraged them to play harder and make the team the next season. Now all the kids make the team and have to play a certain amount of innings. World is truly messed up.
 
Unbelieveable. How do they expect kids to get better if they applaud lousy performance?
 
That's what we get when we ask these new doctors for an opinion on how we can protect our children. It's a wonder the human race has survived all these years. But of course, it's only been in the last couple of hundred years that things have been bad. And of course, it's those rascally Europeans that did it all to us.
