Have at it Part II

Things sorta got off track in the other thread. While na$car sits in the a/c skyboxes a driver is going to get seriously hurt,,or worse, with the "have at it boys" they've passed down. Limits have to be imposed.
The King and the Silver Fox raced clean. Sr raced somewhat clean, he'd move you no doubt about that.
But now we have kart, legend car "champions" in the big boy league who race waaaay over their head.
You didn't get a ride in cup until you were in your late 20's minimum and had 5+ years in a lower series. Now we have 18 year olds...
Seriously, I've lost a lot of the enthusiam I had. Not only because of the young drivers but because there's 3-4 teams that field half the cars.

Nobody has gotten seriously hurt in years and all those younger kids you say who are way in over their heads don't go out there wrecking people every weekend.

NASCAR took care of Kyle's insane move. We can only hope it sent a message to Carl. He's the only guy I see wrecking for blood.

I hate the multi car teams, and would rather see a two car team Max. If the two cars are ruled to be helping each other, like waiting exclusively to draft with each other etc DQ both cars instantly. Bust up the Hendrick Satellite Empire, and Rouschs control of Ford.
There should never be any team mates on the track, every man for himself. Another team car contradicts competition.

But that is just a dream that will never happen.

As for boys have at it, NASCAR could force the drivers to perform some hard labor when they retaliate to compensate for the cars they damage. Not talking about punching a joke clock at the team’s shop either, but something like hauling hay in the hot sun, or just digging holes.
Make them do 4/12s Monday thru Thursday, and screw any promotions they have for the week. The old school guys had to bleed and sweat, so cutting the new punks would be wise. Make the tweeting pretty boys suffer and bleed, and publish the deed to shame them.

Not sure any of this 4am jabbering will help anything other than my post count.
Racing will never be perfect, it does have the moments, but they can't be served up or formulated to deliver the constant results. There were high and lows back in the day, and there are present high and lows, you just have to take the good with the bad, sometimes.

Just remember that 2011 was really a great season, an epic battle, with plenty of sides that offered the love and hate. The idea of the corporate plastic faced driver was obliterated; in 2011 they were all too human if anything.
As I get older and less impressionable but if we could have went back to our teen eyes to see NASCAR 2011 it would have had to leave a lifetime of good memories. It was an epic year, or one for the ages.

SST55 I do feel what you are saying, I miss the old Saturday night legends that were the short track gods. Those guys were tops and I loved the idea of a driver earning his stripes, and learning to be rugged or a man against them
But I doubt we will ever again see a world full of Richie Evans, Ingram, Ard, Sennaker, and Trickle and there were so many others that were great too. All we can do is cherish the memories, and try to enjoy the present.

Life is short, in ten years Gordon, Stewart and others will be in their twilight years if not already gone. We best enjoy them while we can.

I agree with pretty much everything you are saying Greg..except that I cannot believe that any sponsor who is putting up 8 to 10 million a season would be content to have a driver represent them who is not trying to win and/or following team orders. The sponsor would just move on to another driver.Jack Roush needs to be very careful in this regard as he is having some difficulty attracting sponsors. He does not need to have this type of image associated with his drivers. I think Rick Hendrick does a good job of staying away from this stuff.

I agree with ya Greg!

Ted do you think the sponsors as a whole care about Winning or just the amount of Exposure?
I know one sponsor I thought for sure would dump a driver.....but apparently their okay with him still

I marvel at Budwiser and the limited number of times that they have made it to victory lane v/s their investment.

More proof that drinking and driving don't mix. I was surprised that Bowyers win last year was the first for General Mills

Wow ! That must be nuts to explain in the boardroom . Especially when some first timer wins.

I know. They've been in the sport for a long time. Maybe I got this wrong. It could have been Bowyers first win for them. I'll try to get the facts.

Obviously exposure means the most, to most of them.

No other way to explain Danica, Dale Jr, getting premium deals while drivers with recent cup wins can't put a deal together.
Or all of Michael Walt rip racing in its entirety.

If competitive values mattered to the corporate pieces of excrement they would refuse the provisional 35 BS. But they would rather impose there not worth a damn crap on race fans then to have a contests among the most worthy.
