Hmmmm....I don't know of any good "ghost" stories off the top of my head, but I can recommend a few good scary/creepy books.
The Road by Cormac McCarthy
It's a story about a father and his young son living in a post-apocalyptic Eastern America. Together, they're traveling down an old highway trying to move farther south before the approaching winter kills them. Along the way meet everything from roaming bands of marauders to cannibals.
The Gunslinger by Stephen King
This is the first of seven books in the Dark Tower series. It follows the story of Roland (who's sort of a cross between a Clint Eastwood style cowboy and a medieval knight) as the pursues his nemesis a wizard called "The Man in Black". The story involves things like interdimensional travel, demons, vampires, and wizards.
Both of these are not very long books, so if you read everynight you should be able to finish them in a day or two.
