Castroneves Also, Would Like To Try NASCAR
Add Helio Castroneves' name to the list of open-wheel stars wanting to try NASCAR. The two-time Indy 500 winner said late Wednesday he is intrigued by the possibility of racing in America's most popular series. "Because of the popularity and attention the sport has gotten, there is no question I would like to try," he said during NASCAR's preseason media tour of race shops. "The closest thing I have gotten so far is the IROC and I have liked it." ...Daily Headlines

i think Helio would quickly become a fan favorite if he does try nascar.

like it or not nascar is trying as hard as it can to bring in more fans. there are only so many "hometown favorites" once you try to expand markets. it's not necessarily good or bad, just different. and profitable if done right. lose a few good ole boys and gain tons of latino fans where racing is very popular. we all know that it's the money that drives the sport.

Actually I heard the whole interview, and what he said was at this time he had plenty more he wanted to accomplish right where he was at, but eventually of course he'd be interested in trying it.

Doesn't bother me in the least that another foreigner wants a piece of the cake. Sooner or later, the series will fall flat on it's face just as the old CART series did. I just hate to see this continue. But it does show that NASCAR is doing things that is making those guys take a look. Maybe where they are racing now just doesn't do enough to keep their interests.

I think that what is really needed now is maybe another new series that would include guys from around the world competing against one another. It would be more like IROC, only different and more races.

I'm sure that when people like myself and others say they aren't particularly fond of NASCAR being invaded by foreigners, there will be those libs who will call us some name or another, just like they do about every other thing that we don't care for. Yep, when a person says they don't like something, the first thing that comes out of their mouths is... and why don't you like it? Well, I ask them, why do you like it? Why do you dislike some of the drivers already racing? Oh I'd better stop now or I'll turn this one into a political thread.
