Helio's Dance Around Taxes With Jury
The tax evasion case of race car driver Helio Castroneves is near its end and is in the hands of the jury.

This is all over local news here. Helio broke down at a press conference today, I think reality may be sinking in. Obviously we don't know what evidence was presented but I'm not sure I can believe he knew nothing about his finaces...
 
The defense for Helio Castroneves has filed for a mistrial. The defense counsel objected to trying the case by one set of instructions and then, they contend, have inconsistencies or changes with Tuesday's instructions to the 12 jurors.

Depending on the judge's decision reference the mistrial, the jury deliberations will go on Wednesday morning at 8am.
 
The latest on the trial...

The attorneys for Helio Castroneves lost their motion for a mistrial Wednesday but they did succeed in getting U.S. district Judge Donald Graham to amend his instructions to the jury on a couple of key issues.

Judge Graham denied their motion Wednesday but agreed to change the language of the following terms. Instead of calling Roger Penske the employer and Castroneves the employee, the jury was told to refer to Penske as the payor and Seven Promotions as the payee.

They say if Helio is acquitted in time, he has a ticket to Los Angeles Friday morning and will be in a car for Penske for the Long Beach race. Im hoping this happens.
 
They say all the verdicts are still sealed and that the jury will resume deliberations on Friday. I hope its all finished tomorrow and its good news
 
The jurors have reached a verdict on 2 of the tax evasion counts on Helio but are still deadlocked in the other 5 counts.

As for Helio's sister, Katiucia, they have reached a verdict on 1 count but deadlocked on the 6 other counts.

As for Castroneve's sports lawyer, Alan Miller, the jury reached verdicts on 4 counts against him but he will not be charged with 3 other tax evasion counts.

The jury will resume deliberations today.

And yes, I have faith in Helio, I believe he is innocent.

Helio is acquitted of all charges ! He will be racing at Long Beach this weekend in the #3 Penske!

YaaaaHooooooooooooooooo, Helio!!!!!!!!! It's wonderful news. And I just cannot believe he has done anything worse than probably 3/4 of Washington politicos!!!!! And being "not of this country", I have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Miller, who was defended so well by Jimmie Johnson, was hired for just those reasons!!!
I am just happy Helio has this behind him now and can go to Long Beach!!!!!
