Help a new guy out.

Rather new to nascar so if it seems like a dumb question than bear with me. My question is about the scoring on the daytona 500 this past weekend. Regan Smith qualified 38th...led a lap and finished in top ten...and got 0 points...joe nemechek qualifed 27th finished dead last and got o points...those two along with a few more got 0 points....so i am asking what is the reason for no points...

They are going for points in Nationwide. You can only get points for one of the top 3 series.

Correct. The drivers can race in all three races, but they have to choose to go for a Championship in onlu one of the three series. So as Stewartfan said, those with 0 points received 0 because they are just running in the Cup races, but are going for the Championship in the Nationwide Series.

This was put in place to stop the Cup drivers from running for the Nationwide and Cup Championships.

southfan76, this is a relatively new rule introduced at the start of the 2012 season. Before that, drivers could run for points in as many series as they wanted to enter.

But as I understand it, if you choose any of these drivers in your Fantasy League, say, Austin Dillon at Phoenix, you would still recieve the points they earned towards your team's point total.
