I've been looking for a new computer for a while now. I have just about gone crazy! I was wondering if any of you had bought a dell and if you like them. I'm looking at the 2400 with a flat panel. I would love any feedback on this. I can get free shipping if I order before midnight. Help please, I'm about the pop from all this researching!!!!

I bought a dell not that long ago and I am pretty happy with it overall.

***A very important thing to remember with Dell is that if you see a sale price you like and then they tell you it isn't on sale anymore, don't worry it will go back on sale in like a week or so!!!

I saw a commercial for a sale, called to order it the next day and they told me it was $100.00 higher than the commercial. I got pissed off and bought one that night on ebay. It went back on sale from Dell a week later for less than what I bought it on ebay for and with the monitor included!

Thanks 4x is does help--the one I'm looking at is just the one I want. the only question I have is is this a good upgrade:

Single Drive: 48x CD-RW / DVD-ROM Combo Drive Watch DVDs & Burn CDs

It will cost me 90.00 more

It depends on how much you like DVD's. It seems like pretty good deal if you do. Mine came with a 40x CD burner. I had a 48x CD burner in my old system and 40 does seem quite a bit slower for some reason.

If it was me, I would go for the $90 upgrade. I would also upgrade the memory if it isn't too expensive to do. I doubled mine from 128 to 256 for $25. The best $25 I could've spent in my opinion. You hardly even regret getting the better stuff. ;)

SG, I'm now using a Dell 4600 and love it. The wife has a new Dell 1100 laptop and she loves it, so we're computer happy at the moment. I've already had to reformat and reinstall this booger. Don't ask why, but it was a snap and much easier than the old Win 98 machine. I'm sure you will love your new computer, which ever one you choose.

sg, I have purchased a Dell for home, and love it. At work, over the past 3 years, we have purchased 6 computers from Dell. It's really up to what you are looking for, but Dell is a very reputable company and they do stand behind whatever they sell. The one I purchased for myself, the harddrive just went "poof" and wouldn't do anything. It was less than 30 days old. Dell had someone out the very next day, installed a NEW harddrive, and was up and running in a matter of less than 30 minutes. They stand behind what they sell. I'm happy with mine!

About a year ago, I got a 2400 with a flat panel, 60 Gig HD, 48X CD burner & also got the sub woofer with the Harmon speakers. Dang thing sounds better than my stereo! Sweet! :D

Bumped my memory up to 256 SD RAM like 4x also.

Ya can't go wrong with a Dell! They are pretty awesome.

My computer crashed in Dec. Can't remember what kind, but, whatever it was, don't buy that kind! :D

I build my own computers, but a friend of mine has a dell and has not had any problems with it. But a 48x combo dvd drive for 90$, thats a little high you can get one on the net for 45$ shipping included.

yea my gateway developed the blue screen of death and had to be put out of its misery.

got a dell GX400 that has been massaged a little, fine machine.

Jeez guys, I just put away my old Gateway that lasted me for well over five years and though I had to keep the maintenance up on it, it was a great machine. However, a P II 400 mhz just doesn't cut it anymore and so the new Dell. If only this one will last that long.
