Bill Elliott's son, Chase was signed by Hendrick Motorsports as a development driver.

Hendrick Motorsports has signed Bill Elliott’s son, Chase, to a multiyear contract as a development driver.

The son of 1988 Sprint Cup champion Bill Elliott will continue to compete for his family-owned team until meeting the age requirements for competing in NASCAR national series events. Bill Elliott Racing, based in Dawsonville, Ga., will field Chevrolets with support from Hendrick Motorsports. Chase is 15 years old.

“The apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree with Chase,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “I’ve always admired Bill’s ability in a race car and how he handled himself with the fans. I see those same traits in Chase, with his natural driving talent and an awareness of what he needs to do away from the track to be successful. He comes from a great racing family, and it shows.

Hendrick kind of needed some young blood. Kahne is their youngest driver and will be 32 when he starts driving for them.

I watched Chase run a dang smart race at Winchester last year. That kid has the patience of Job and ended up winning the fall race. He and Trevor Bayne are the next two up and coming stars in NASCAR.

Chase is at least two years away from running anything in NASCAR though.

What ever happened to Mark Martins kid. Seems once upon a time Roush had him signed to some long developmental contract.

Marks son, Matt, walked away from racing a few years ago.

Ross Kenseth is another up and coming driver.

Apocolypse is upon us, a bowtie will reside in Bill Elliott's garage!

Maybe not

NASCAR Lowers Age Limit For Touring Series: NASCAR announced it has lowered the minimum age for drivers competing in its regional touring series to 15. The change, effective immediately, will be applied to drivers in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour and NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. In a corresponding move, the Learner's Permit License for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will be applicable for all divisions at NASCAR-sanctioned tracks. The Whelen All-American Series is NASCAR's national championship program for its more than 55 sanctioned short tracks across North America.(NASCAR)

Just because your daddy was a Cup champion doesn't mean you will be. You'd figure that Hendrick would have already had that figured out.

That's one of the main reasons Martin unretired ...again, because basically he was trying to secure a spot for his kid. When his kid decided he didn't want to race, Martin had all that free time on his hands, so he decided to go racing full time....again....did I say ....again! I really hope if Kahne ever takes over the 5, that martin finally hangs it up!

I think this story may end a little differently.

i'm glad chase is getting help from an established organization but would have preferred almost anyone over hendrick.

Everyone at Hendrick Motorsports has high standards and takes a lot of pride in what they do.
yeah right...:bleh:

Why, so he can be a backmarker? I like the wood brothers, but they haven't been anything but sporatic for years.

Yeh well with a kid like Chase maybe they wouldn't be a back marker.
