Hendrick Motorsports takes command with CoT testing?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Did Chevrolet teams win eight of the first nine Car of Tomorrow races because of manufacturer support? Or is Chevy successful with new technology because of the teams it has under its umbrella? The answer, of course, is a combination of the two. Kyle Busch won the first CoT race at Bristol in March and was openly dismissive of the car in his postrace interviews. However, his victory came as a result of more than a year's worth of work by the engineers at Hendrick Motorsports. Hendrick drivers won the first five CoT races, with Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon each claiming two in addition to Busch's victory. That was no accident, according to Virginia Tech graduate and Hendrick crew chief Darian Grubb. Grubb, crew chief for Hendrick's fourth car driven by Casey Mears, is a former team engineer. He said the Hendrick R&D department put in the hours to make the difference. -- Richmond Times-Dispatch
