Bucky, I agree totally. Just as the Chase is here, so is the COT, like it or not.

I think that Andy should just watch ARCA and root for those girls he thinks will be the next top dawg in NASCAR and leave the rest of us alone. It's one thing to be negative, but he carries it way too far.

Did anyone watch NASCAR Now tonight? Bestwick asked Dale Jarrett what he would do if were "comissioner" --- he flat out said get rid of the wing. That's not the way our cars are supposed to look.

Well, I will agree with that, but the way things have gone in all sports, things just aren't the way they used to be. I remember for instance when Funny Cars in drag racing actually looked like the cars they were supposed to be. All autoracing vehicles have changed through the years. NASCAR changed the rules way back when when they put a spoiler on the cars. Even before the COT, the cars hardly looked stock and without the decals, one would have a hard time telling one make from the other.

The sport changes whether for the right reason or not. As far as I'm concerned, they will continue to change until fans stop coming to the races and then it will be forced to go back to the basics. But until that time, the COT, Chase and any other changes that Brian France and family decide on are going to stay. I think that most of us have agreed that NASCAR doesn't really care about the "old school" fans and are really about the new fans. As long as us old school fans continue to support the sport, again, things ain't gonna change.

I watched it. Did you hear Rusty say he wrecked Jeff at Richmond on purpose that year as a payback for Bristol? Wonder if it's too late for NASCAR to fine Rusty?

Unfortunately you are only too right.

I'm not so sure NASCAR cares about their fans at all sometimes.

NASCAR races used to be a place where you could take the family when there was a race nearby and enjoy it. Now, it's practically a vacation you've gotta save up for. Tickets + Travel + Food.

Ding, ding, ding ---- we have a winner!

Andy, you hit it right on the money.

Dead on. The old cars looked like beefed up ASA cars with the rounded fender tops, flat sides at the bottom, and snout noses. The noses and front fenders on those cars resemble more of a dirt late model than a street car. But when Detroit went to front drivers and unibodies, the special built race car was a necessity after that.

Just look at your local tracks. Since the Pinto, Vega, and Mustang II bodies are so hard to find, stock 4 cylinder classes are going to tube frame cars with odd looking bodies.

I still contend the wing on the COT was to appeal to the kids that are into the rice racers and to prevent teams from playing with a spoiler.

I know there a bunch of noise about the COT, but look at it this way. Stock cars stopped being stock cars when front wheel drive silhouettes were allowed to race (anyone remember the 1985 Buick Lesabre/Olds Delta 88's?) At least then they ran factory sheet metal. I also remember one Rusty Whiner (cough) Wallace who used the unsafe schtick for the Grand Prix's to get three inches in the rear deck to "level the playing field." Since then, its been a give and take to increase parity. What it has lead to is the COT, yet the previous car was just as common template as the current one. If you want stock cars, lets take a page from the Australian Super Car series and implement that.

I have always thought that with the way auto manufactering has gone that race cars should be race cars and street cars street cars. If the factory wants its stickers on there they can put them on the car. I think an asphalt car should look like the beefed up ASA car. Those cars with the wedge nose that you could root cars out of the way with and use traditional setups without worrying about a bump stop breaking the car apart. Or as far as the bump stops go let them use the stops how they want to. They did it before the COT just fine.

Do we really need to Andy threads on how much he hates the COT...
