Here's a thought about the chase

When we raced at New Smyrna with the truck, a FASCAR track they really didn't have a class for us, so after passing tech we were asked to run laps. Our times would be used to determined what division we'd race in. Told Steve our driver not to go setting any records.<wink wink nudge nudge Bob's yer uncle :D>
So, we're in a Sportmans class, I think it was, and we smoked them.
Tech tells us we have to add weight, 25 pounds and they determined where it was to go. Hung it rt rear, behind the wheel. BUMMER DUDE
After finishing in the next race top five they added another 25 pounds. Destroyed the handling but we did finish 8th overall.

Maybe in the chase, depending on number of wins a weight penalty. (ANYTHING TO KEEP JOHNSON FROM #5. ANYTHING:D)

Wow, I don't know about all of that. I'd just like to see other teams step up their game and beat this guy. It isn't over yet. I'm not so sure that we won't see it this year. Sounds like Double J is getting into more heads than just his competitors.

I kinda liked Jimmie when he was in the Busch Series, but when he came up to Cup, I didn't give a crap, then when he began to win, I, for probably the reason many have, begun to dislike the man. Then he won the championship and my dislike got worse. Then....well, you get the idea. Now that he has four in a row, it's almost like I want to see him keep going. It might totally kill the NASCAR fan base, but if he could win seven in a row, just think what the talk form older fans would be. I'm sure even my saying this will grate on old Ironhead and Petty fans. If Richard Petty is the King and Dale Earnhardt is the Intimidator, what would JJ be known as? The God of NASCAR?

I am outta here..........................

Hate to see the sport suffer, because of a driver dominating, but fun to see Frances bank account shrink to 10 digits because of it....:growl:

This sport didn't wane when Petty was winning 200 races and grew when Earnhardt began to dominate. Domination of a driver is not what the problem is.

I remember Jimmie Johnson's time in the Busch Series more for his out of control nose dive into the outside barrier in turn one @ Watkins Glen than for his single win @ Chicago. He had less than stellar stats in that series in a time when Bush regulars were running for the title, unlike today. I don't remember if it was Jeff Gordon or who that saw potential in him but whoever it was, I'd sure would like to have them pick me out some PowerBall numbers. They hit the lottery when they picked him. :beerbang:

As far as him matching the number of titles of Petty or Earnhardt by winning 7 in a row, or 7 in any other manner under the current system, I know I'd have a hard time with it. Not because it's Johnson. I don't really care who it is. There's simply no comparison any more IMO. That ended after the 2004 Richmond fall race.

Johnson's turn 1 crash at the Glen is on utube. Vicious hit.
It was Gordon who brought him over to HMS, in fact IIRC Gordon is half owner of the 48.

People say he is, but he is never listed as owner, so he's probably less than half

1 48 Hendrick Motorsports 5673 30 30
2 11 Joe Gibbs Racing 5637 30 30
3 29 Richard Childress Racing 5619 30 30
4 24 Hendrick Motorsports 5588 30 30
5 14 Stewart-Haas Racing 5566 30 30
6 2 Penske Racing South 5533 30 30

I agree, it'd be interesting to see just how many championship Jimmie can win in a row, or in all. I can actually see him winning eight (or more) championship before he retires and possibly beating Petty's record of 200 races won.

Love the man, or hate the man, you have to give him credit when credit is due. He is one hell of a driver and he has an immense amount of talent when it comes to driving a 800 hp machine.

mmmm, I'd give Chad a lot of credit too.

Beating Petty's record is going to be a tall order. JJ is 35 now and has 53(?) wins. If he races another 20 years he'd have to average 7.5 wins a year. Very tall order with the competition in cup today.

Wiki says Gordon is listed as a share holder of JJ 's 48.
