Here's a thought

I was just watching Nascar Now, they had France on talking about the state of the sport. One of the questions asked was how much longer the 351 v-8 would remain a mainstay in Nascar, when would Nascar go to a smaller engine? So here's a thought why not allow teams a choice whether to run a smaller engine? One that is more efficient, gets better fuel mileage, it would make for some interesting scenarios. If a smaller displacement engine gets say 4mpg better fuel mileage than the old mainstay, think about the advantages or disadvantages this could provide. You get better mileage , yet at the same time you could be down 30-50 HP. Thoughts?

Kinda reminds me of what happened at BGS a couple of years ago in the limited late model series. They had okayed a crate V8, but said that the old standard V6's were still okay and that the V8's would have a handicap. It didn't take a full year to see that those with the new crate engines had the advantage and the older teams complained of the cost of re-doing their cars. Personally, I like the idea of competition whether its tires, engines or what. But knowing NASCAR as I do, they don't care for competition off the track because of sponsors. What was the answer that was given? I'd bet big money that equality was the main reason.

Yeh France pretty much skirted around the question and didn't answer it though. He was also asked whether there would be changes to the plate racing and he seemed to be quite happy with the results of Dega and Daytona, so I think we will continue to see the tandem racing again.

Nothing is ever going to change (except for the worse) until France is out of power and someone else take his place.

Yeh you are probably right with that assumption. France sure plays the part of a politician well, he gave very vague answers and sometimes didn't even answer the question at all.

Doesn't matter what the future brings, it will never bring back what the old generation remembers. The sport moves on and it will never revert back to what it was. If you believe so, you are naive.

Hmmm true, very true.
