Hey NASCAR, your season is too long and people are getting burned out

Okay, you lost me there completely. I generally don't spend time on topics I'm not at least a tiny amount of concerned about.

But it's a big wide Internet; if it keeps you entertained, more power to you.

I don't think they are jealous, just don't understand why someone would walk away from a dream job to them.

1.The traveling was closer but privided less creature comforts.
2.Having the home away from home RV delivered and set up probably didnt happen either.
3. Open trailers were common back in the day, everything was more crude.
4. Sponsorship demands were less, but drivers were usually in the shops longer turning wrenches.
5. A good cup driver or GN driver in the day probably earned enough to make a good living. Today the majority probably earn enougb to be millionaires.

End of the day, you probably had to some type of freak that was absolutely dedicated, back in the day, and currently as well. Both an all consuming passion that takes everything one can give.

You must have missed my comment about edward's reasons for leaving being "simple enough for me". I understand his logic. That doesnt mean I have to have sympathy for how millionare pro race car drivers "are burnt out" & can retire before 40

Just my 2 cents and I don't think you or anyone should have to have sympathy for Carl or any Nascar driver but I don't think (hope not anyway) that anyone was suggesting you should.

Being a cup driver used to be a dream for Carl but it became a job for him and he realized he would enjoy doing other things a lot more.

Maybe. But with a lot more breaks in between.

From the 90s till the early 00s there were only 30 races per. They kept adding more and more and by doing so burning these drivers out.

If you pay attention to when these drivers get interview, they dont sound too thrill about the grueling schedule. That is why mostly all of them try to cruise through the regular season. And yes, the chase has something to do with it as well.
 
I totally support Edwards decision to retire. But there are more than enough good drivers that dream of the same type opportunity.

Except Pocono 2x, Dover 2x, Michigan 2x, Watkins Glen, Riverside, Phoenix, and later on New Hampshire and Indy. So on average that's 8-9 races outside of the Southeast of the 30ish races each season in the 80s and 90s. That's a lot of zig-zagging.

There is really a simple alternative for those that have faith in Brian's waivers.

Petition him to grant 9 weeks of Vacation to all cup drivers. That gets them down to 27 events per season. Carl might even find that tolerable enough to unretire

Give fans an electronic device that can be clicked when it all gets to oh my gawd B-O-R-E-I-N-G (enuciate like a bored teenage girl for a most awesome expression). The clicker could be used for when the seats get to hard, or for PEE PEE breaks, etc...

Grant waivers to Fans too, if they need an excuse or permission for taking a Nascar break . It would be a great thing, it would spare those that like lots of racing from a loss. It would also allow folks that just aint into it to continue with the illusion.

Sponsors would love and respect some more casual representation too.

I could never be a professional athlete. Hell, I had to quit D2 track and field because traveling around to different schools and tracks and meets every week was too much haha

As it is with the chase--urgency to actually get things done quicker. Like get a win before x comes around.

But overall you're right. Less races doesn't necessarily guarantees more quality. But there are things that could improve it like shorter races for instance. Or less drivers.

A field of 25 or 30 would guarantee for certain better racing.
 
Shorter races? We already have that at local tracks all across the country. It's called short track racing. Less drivers? Same answer as previous question. Drivers that don't have to put in so many "gruelling" hours with sponsor requirements? See short track racing. Nobody is forcing you fans to go to Cup races or watch them on TV. Feel free to see Joe Dirt and Billy Bob race at Oak Tree Race Track and Farm every Saturday.
 
As logical as a young couple deciding that less intimate time is preferable.

That's fine if he wants to leave to be with family. I could care less about the brutal schedule though, they know what they are getting into when they enter NASCAR. Let them leave and be with family, someone will take their place.

One thing I would love is to shrink the field to get rid of the cannon fodder as they just take up room that could be used by the faster cars. Some of them are just rolling chicanes and do nothing to add to the interest or intensity of a race.
