I used to poopoo the West Nile thing, kinda like the "killer bee". Now I worry a lot cuz my new friends on this board are in danger, & Louisana seems to be the new home of those skeeters.

New cases here in my county in GA too and hubby got bit last nite. As an environmental advocate I hate poisons, sprays etc. BUT I can ease up for me and mine to not get it. Do you think all out chemical warfare on skeeters will work without hurting the kids, pregnant women, pets?

Do you know if cats and dogs can be infected too? MEOWW????purrrrrr

Dogs and cats can get it but it is very rare. Birds and horses are most common, and I heard some chickens were found dead last week. I am not sure of any test on humans. I have not seen many skeeters near my house this year, so the spraying must be working. The truck comes by every night.
The reason we had so many skeeters last year the co. that sprayed watered down the chemicals. They were sued and lost all contracts. I heard larva was found in bottle caps with water in it. It doesn't take much water for them to breed.
It takes about 2-3 weeks after the bite to have any symtums(sp). Everyone should be very carefull.

Tab, don't go outside in the evening! I decided there was nothing so important that it couldn't wait until the sun was up.

kat, the chemicals should be relatively harmless, unless, as some kids were doing here, riding their bikes right behind in the spray. The stuff used here settles to the ground rather quickly.

We have a new skeeter to these parts, the Asian Tiger skeeter, that feeds(bites) during the day. :( We have to be carefull 24-7.

What chemical do they use now TRL? Way back in the dinosaur ages when I was kid in Corpus Cristi it was DDT!! Maybe that's what's wrong with me now!!:)

TRL, I think it's called "diazanon" and unless they have improved it over the stuff I used to use in my veggie garden & flowers, it STINKS.

But if that's what it takes, thats ok.
