Need to rant about a driver who almost wrecked you on the way home?

Or just want to talk about bad driving in general?

Welcome to Highway Nightmares!

Woman driving a tan Hyundai POS stopped in the turn lane. I go to the inside of her to get around. She finally gets going and decides she needs to be in the left lane, so, without using turn signals, checking her mirrors or looking out her side window, she precedes to turn left in the exact postition my right front tire is at forcing me to jam on the brakes and almost get run into from behind (thank God for quick throttle response).

Then as I drive back by her, she precedes to flip me off...

See once you have been driving longer you'll know what people to watch out for. To anticipate such moves. Just this morning I had a guy driving a POS of some indeterminable make and I knew from his outward appearances that I should be ready to brake as he was in a turn only lane and he was going to go straight.

And I'm not saying this to put you down. Ask the more seasoned drivers here. Most of them, I think, will agree. You can just spot the arse hats and you know they're going to do something stupid long before they know it themselves. If they ever know it. Which it sounds like in your case she didn't.

I generally can anticipate such things. Never had many big problems, I'm usually pretty sharp on the road and lord knows I've got a car that can take off before **** hits the rotary device. But there are the occasional one or two durhards that make their move so abruptly either because they aren't paying attention or they don't know where they're going (see: not paying attention).

On the days I work in Glymont, I take backroads because they're seldom enforced and the only thing you really have to worry about is someone driving below the 30 mph speed limit (which, realistically, you could drive 65 mph in daylight on this road and be safe:rolleyes:).

Hey, Andy. Would you like to take a trip from my college to home? cooper street to division to 360 to 121 to 114 to I-35.

Oh, and 114 has stop lights every other mile, is very poorly marked, and is contraflow on race weekend.

The strangest thing I ever saw, and I wasn't (but should've been) expecting it was the Lincoln Tunnel on my first trip to NYC. The way it went from three lanes to eight or so for the toll booth, then back down to 2 for the tunnel. Cars were pointed every which way, but no one was even honking at anyone else. Took a couple hours but hey, no one got stupid.

Some so-called accidents aren't really accidents. I rear ended a guy in 2000 that stopped dead cold in front of me on a fairly busy main road in NJ. He gave no indication, no signal, nothing and I wasn't speeding. I got a broken neck and leg, total my car (no ticket) and this a-hole was able to drive away unharmed in his tank (SUV). The next week I'm being sued for every injury under the sun including *not able to perform his marital duties*. The last I heard from my insurance company was that I wasn't to worry and the guy would get little or nothing from them. Turns out this wasn't the first time he was rear ended and sued. He was under investigation for faking accidents, suing and collecting from insurance companies.

You ride a motorcycle on the streets of L.A. for any period of time and you really learn to read the dummies. If y'ain't a quick learner you better hope to be a quick healer.

Stop lights every other mile?

Waldorf has stop lights every 1/8th of a mile. Think I'm kidding? I'll prove it. :)

VADirt, Waldorf is a lot like Glouster County (the mini-Waldorf to the South) just a lot bigger and a lot more lights.

You took the word's right out of my mouth...If anyone desires learning defensive driving should try riding a bike. Not only do I have to ride my motorcycle, but I must make a personal decesion for every single idiot on the road.:beerbang:

I will talk about something that just happend friday night.

Late friday night i was watching the Tonight show when i heard a loud bang followed by another loud bang. I quickly ran out of the house to see what was happining only to see at that second a car drive straight into the side of my car. Everyone began coming out from there houses to see what was going on, the driver refused to get out of his car when all the pedestrians came out. He thought he would be slick and drive off but he had broken his axel and his car turned right into my neighbors truck where he smashed his radiator. He still was trying to hit the gas but his car wasnt going anywhere, soon the pedestrians started hiting his window getting him to know he wasnt going to run. He then tried to make an attempt at a sharp turn but his car only moved a foot but it still knocked my neighbor back. At this time the cops had already been called but everyone wanted to make sure he didnt smash another car. He just kept trying to floor the gas but he wasnt going anywhere when a Fire truck showed up and the fire man walked up to his window and the man rolled his window down the firman reached inside and turned his car off and took his keys. The man then came stumbeling out of the car yelling incoherantly when the cops arrived and he was arrested imediately. He smashed a total of 5 cars including his own, my car has a broken tail light, needs a new back bumper, broken ball joint and a new paint job.

I found out he is gonna be charged with Drunk driving and hit and run.

hmm... some good insurance stories.

my nightmare: driving with this guy:

http://video.yahoo.com/network/100000086?v=4609029&l=100000085

when i was driving the dually, I was in the crossover (which is as wide as the dually is long) with a lady going the opposite direction in the same crossover. She went to turn left, and hooked her entire left side of her car on the corner of the rear bumper. It bent her fender, her door and hinges, took out her fender ornament and headlight, broke my tailight lense and bent the bumper a hair.

she calls the police, i call my mom, and her statement to the cops is "I didn't see there was more of his truck sitting there behind the tire"

So she goes off with her 1500+ in damages, i come home, back into the power pole (slowly) and leave it parked there overnight, order a new lense off ebay for 8 bucks, and now you can't tell except for a slight dent in the corner of the bed. didn't even swipe the primer off.

Couple of years ago we had a lot of local road constuction going on, I had just bought my new truck.
Roads would go from two lanes down to one, having just got the truck I wouldn't push the issue and let people in front of me constantly.
I was getting tired of this chit so I started to use Ol' Blue for local trips.
Blue is a '89 GMC 1500 half ton riding on 3500 1 ton suspension,on his 3rd motor (368, a bored and stroked 350)with over 450,000 miles and it looks like it too. This was our tow vehicle.
Funny how the Beamers, Caddys etc would get out of the way rather than force the issue with Blue.
If you drive something nice they'll try anything, drive a POS they figure you don't have insurance.

sounds like a good tow rig. the dually is over 300,000 on the numbers matching 454.

I wired the turn signals into the fender lights, didn't have any problems at all wedging a 25 foot long truck into a 20 foot opening on the highway.

Okay Andy, now you've got me started.

Yesterday I was going down a parallel street to my own. When I approached the corner to turn I stopped, put my right turn blinker on to let the guy in the tan chevy truck know what i was going to do.He had stopped in middle of side street where I needed to turn. There was no room for me to make my turn.I waited for him to turn.He turns, burns some serious rubber pissed off at me.I get home, and am going through my mail when I hear a truck speeding up behind me.Yes, you got it right. He followed me home, slowed down and watched me go into my house before speeding off.I locked the doors behind me.

That sort of stuff isn't unheardof around here. I normally don't care - I'm a 2nd Amendment type of person. :D

It was a great truck, I sometimes regret selling it. I sold it to a guy locally and still see it on the road every once in a while.

In the 10+ years I had it never once did it fail to start, even after sitting for up to 3 months. Never even had a flat tire, nothing.

20 hours, with only one fuel stop from RI to New Smyrna towing a 24 foot trailer, installed aux fuel tanks. Could carry 78 gallons of gas. Got better gas mileage then we did beer,,,,,,:beerbang:

It did have it's strange ways, like the switch on the drivers door for the pass door lock ran the pass window up and down. Heater had two speeds, off and on. Radio, depended on the day if it worked or not no matter how hard or much you beat on the dash.

My truck now, 05 Siliverado ext cab, black as Dale Sr would have it, chrome wheels, silver bottom, red pinstripe isn't half, even quarter the truck as Ol' Blue was. I might scratch it! Or heavens forbide put a dent in it!!
