Are a pain in the azz. I understand the need for privacy and security but when you go to the hospital and you're standing at the end of the bed and you ask the doc 'I'm his brother, how's he doing?' and get "I can't tell you, you're not the ONE designated on his form to recieve information".

His wife is the designated info reciever and she's been under a doc care since Tuesday for the stress.

I'm going to find out my brother died by reading his obit in the paper.

Yeah, the law can be pretty bad. The wife lost a job because she gave the wife of a patient a little bit of news but no one was on the list, not even his wife. Actually, you can have more than one person on that list and it is up to the patient to name all the people who can get info. There are good things about the law and of course bad things. How many times have you seen in the movies some private eye checking on a patient's condition? Security is always getting harder.
