What would you guy/gals say to having a historic race track section? From the small asphalt, or dirt tracks that many famous NA$CAR drivers started their careers on to once raced tracks that sadly became parking lots or shopping centers. What say all you racing addicts?

I just wonder how long it would last? A lot could be said at first, but then after it is said, what would be next?

My historical racing venues contributions are going in a book I'm working on.

Why post it here for free when I can make money (guess that makes me a greedy conservative type) off what I have?

Your book going to include tracks in other parts of the country other than the east coast or old NA$CAR tracks? You know anything about old Texas tracks?

How about the old tracks in the midwest. I wonder if Andy knows that some of the greats made their names on some of those old tracks from Nebraska, through Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, etc. If Andy gets all of those tracks as well as others throughout the US, that book might be bigger than "War and Peace".

This is something I'm working on about Beltsville, Dorsey, Laurel, Marlboro and Aquasco and a couple still running (Budds Creek and Old Dominion).

I was originally doing it for a magazine but I've got so much research that it's become something that'll be a few hundred pages.

Just as I thought all east coast (MD) tracks.

You want see some racing history check this out.

btw there was an "Intimidator" long before Dale Earnhardt his name was A.J. Foyt I saw him run off many a race car/driver that got in his way. AJ started his racing career at Playland Park Raceway

After they closed Playland Park Raceway they moved the racing to here.

Historians haven't been kind to the many tracks in the Northeast. There is very little written about the Kingstown Fairgrounds, the Cranston Autodrome, Lonsdale which when first built was a high banked WOODEN track used for both cars and motorcycles! There was also a track in Newport where the Astors and Rockefellers hob knobed with the common people.
American Power Conversion sits on the Faigrounds site, the Autodrome is a football stadium, Lonsdale a housing development.
Six Flags now sits on the site of the old Riverside Park Raceway.
As many problems as Seekonk has it'll be sad to see it go,,and it will go. Track built after WWII, then came the housing developments of the 50's, further housing encroachment up into the 90's and now the complaints over the noise..track was there when you bought the house azzhat. Close to 100 acres on a busy highway, prime real estate. Grand kids see $$ signs, couldn't care less about racing.

It's those cucumber sammich eaters Skippy and Muffy moving out to what was the country side that's killing the tracks.

Kinda like asses that buy homes close to major airports like DFW 10-15 years after the airport was built then turn around and sue the airport for noise pollution. Well duh you built a noise close the airport idiot. When they built DFW it was out in the middle of nowhere now it's surrounded by housing developments.

Speaking of wooden tracks just north of Meyer Speedway (walking distance apart) there was a wooden bicycle oval race track. It was pretty cool.
