Matt had his bad luck for the year last night at the Miller Lite Natl's at Slinger Superspeedway. It only gets better from now on!
He started around 10th or 11th in the 225 lap feature race and was moving up though the field. I can't remember the exact lap, but it was around lap 50 when I think he spun out & backed into the wall in turn 4. He was up to 5th place. A power steering line broke & it poured onto his tire & then the car turned around on him.
Rich Bickle won the event. He ran the 2nd groove the whole night and lead at least 200 of the laps. A lot of drivers were able to pull along side of him on the inside, but they never could get the car completely past to lead a large amount of laps.
Kurt Busch lead the first 3-4 laps after starting on the pole (which meant he was only the 14th fastest in qualifying) before Bickle took over the lead from him.
Kurt's night ended when he cut a tire down on the backstretch & someone tapped him & he went into the wall front first & hit hard. The front of the car jumped up on the top of the wall & rode that way for about 50 feet into turn 3. He was OK. I'm guessing this was around lap 150.
Both the Wimmer brothers day ended early...they were the 1st two out of the race. Not sure what happened to Chris' car but Scott lost an engine. Scott had problems in his last chance race, when he spun out with another car. He made the feature on one the promoter's choice provisionals.
Legendary Wisconsin driver Dick Trickle had engine problems and I believe he went out at about lap 180? The laps click off so fast there, it's hard to keep track. It's a 1/4 mile track that's banking mirrors Bristol.
The first 16 made the feature on speed and they inverted the top 14. Postions 17 through 20 were set by the top two finishers in the two last chance races & the final four spots were reserved for the promoter's choice...mainly if a Scott Wimmer, Kurt Busch, or ex-track champ or Natl's champ fail to make it.
