Hopefully this report isn't about Jacks cars.

All those problems cars were built in Mexico. The wheels have fallen off Jacks Cup and NW programs, so he'll be ranting about a chicano conspiracy pretty soon.

Meanwhile, hard working people in North Carolina are cranking out the Bimmers that we drive, and people in Georgia and OHIO are making Hondas and Toyotas.

What is an american car?

hey, things are tight right now. sometimes you have to cut back. so you only have 3 wheels until you can afford 4. deal with it. looking out the window at our hyundai WITH 4 wheels intact. <g>

My wife just got a very nice year end, not Christmas dammmit, bonus. Wants to go look at the Hyundai Sonata again. Me, buying a furin' car. Ain't right.

I've been buying them for 10 years and never had a single problem. My only complaint is the noisy tires, so I wait for a sale on highway rated tires (I believe it's 'S' rating) that are much quiter. Mobile 1 also quiets the 4 valve noise present in all 4 valve engines, then I change the filter at 7,500 and then oil and filter at 15,000. It's all good with the warranty. 100,000 powertrain and 60,000 bumper to bumper is great. I caught my visor in the window, and they replaced it no questions. You can beat the living crap out of them too.

I have had American cars and Imported cars and I can say, without a doubt, that the best car I have ever owned is my current car. It's a 2002 MINI Cooper S. Designed by the engineers at BMW and built in Oxford, England, it is tight, quick, responsive and safe - and it still looks damn good after nearly 10 years. I love it!

Back in the sixty's when I was in grammar school I learned that The U.S.A., Canada and Mexico where all in North America......did that change in the meantime?

My definition and what I consider correct is that a vehicle is considered a "Foreign Car" if the Profits from selling that car leave the country it's being sold in.

While we are on making lists.

Vehicles Built in U.S.A by GM:

Buick Lucerne
Cadillac CTS
Cadillac DTS
Cadillac STS
Cadillac XLR
Chevrolet Camaro
Chevrolet Cobalt
Chevrolet Corvette
Chevrolet Malibu
Chevrolet Volt
Buick Enclave
Cadillac Escalade
Cadillac Escalade
ESV Cadillac
SRX Chevrolet Suburban
Chevrolet Tahoe/Tahoe Hybrid
GMC ArcadiaGMC Yukon/Yukon Hybrid
Chevrolet Colorado
GMC Canyon
Chevrolet Express
Chevrolet Uplander
GMC Savana
Chevrolet TrailBlazer
GMC Envoy

Did you know GM employs more United States Citizens than ANY other company by a 6 to 1 ratio?

My wife just got a very nice year end, not Christmas dammmit, bonus. Wants to go look at the Hyundai Sonata again. Me, buying a furin' car. Ain't right.

HA, ha, ahh that's funny. You do realize that there's no such thing as an "American" car or a "foreign" car anymore, right? They may be assembled in certain corners of the globe, but all the little individual parts come from all across the globe to the assembly plant. Ford, Chevy, Dodge, they're about as American as the Toyotas, the Beemers, or the Hyndai's.

One GM model missing from the list that Flash posted is the IMPALA - which is the model that Chevrolet has chosen to promote in the Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series.

How curious...:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I thought everyone new that GM and NASCAR got together and decided to have it built in Canada to lure in the Canadian racing fans?

My definition and what I consider correct is that a vehicle is considered a "Foreign Car" if the Profits from selling that car leave the country it's being sold in.

This doesn't make any sense at all to me either. Just because a plant in Ohio assembles parts made in Mexico doesn't' make a car a American car.

The F-Series pickup truck, that most iconic of domestic vehicles, is assembled in Kansas City, Missouri, and Dearborn, Michigan, but with just 55 percent of parts made in the U.S. or Canada. More than 15 percent of its parts come from Mexico, although all of its engines and both transmission systems are built in the U.S. Some transmissions for the Mustang (assembled in Flat Rock, Michigan) come from China.
GM vehicles assembled in Canada include Chevrolet's Camaro, Equinox and Impala and the GMC Terrain, while vehicles built in Mexico include Cadillac's SRX and Escalade EXT, Chevrolet's Aveo, HHR, Silverado, and GMC's Sierra. GM vehicles built in the U.S. include Buick's LaCrosse, Lucerne and Enclave, Cadillac's CTS, DTS and STS-V, Chevrolet's Cruze, Corvette, Malibu and Tahoe, and GMC's Yukon.
According to figures from IHS Global Insight, of the GM vehicles assembled domestically, several Corvette engines are built in Canada, with several transmission variants originating in Mexico. Its Chevrolet Silverado (assembled in Fort Wayne, Indiana) carries U.S.-built engines across all models, but several transmissions are built in Mexico. For the Cadillac CTS assembled in Lansing, Mich., several engines originate in Canada and Mexico, and the transmissions for various models in the CTS range come from Japan, France, Mexico, and the U.S. Some engines for GM's Chevrolet Cruze, assembled in Lordstown, Ohio, come from Szentgotthard, Hungary.
Chrysler says about 61 percent of the components it uses for its Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep lines come from the U.S., while about 20 percent come from Mexico and Latin America, about 10 percent from Canada and just under 10 percent from the rest of the world. It maintains large production facilities across the U.S., but also builds its 300 and Dodge Challenger and Charger, in Canada, and the PT Cruiser in Mexico.
Of the Big Three's foreign competition, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai and Kia all proudly trumpet their domestic-built credentials. (Honda was the first Japanese carmaker to build a car plant in the U.S., in Marysville, Ohio., in 1979, and more Honda vehicles are now built in the U.S. than in Japan.) Toyota builds its Camry and Avalon models in Georgetown, Kentucky, its Sienna and Highlander in Princeton, Indiana, and has large plants in Huntsville, Alabama, and San Antonio, Texas. Hyundai builds the Sonata and Elantra in Montgomery, Alabama, and shares a plant in West Point, Georgia, with Kia, which recently celebrated the 100,000th Sorento rolling off that line.
Nissan and VW both have longstanding ties to Mexico, with plants in Aguascalientes and Cuernavaca (Nissan) and Puebla (VW). Nissan assembles its small cars like the Versa in Mexico and its larger truck and SUV lines in Smyrna, Georgia. VW imports all its vehicles into the U.S., though it will be opening a new plant in Tennessee.
Mercedes-Benz assembles its ML-, R- and G-Class vehicles in Vance, Alabama, with a U.S./Canadian parts content of 62 percent, but both its engines and transmissions are unsurprisingly sourced from Germany. BMW, meanwhile, assembles its X-series SUVs in Spartanburg, South Carolina, with mostly German componentry.
Electric carmaker Tesla's bodywork is completed by Lotus in England, and then shipped to California for assembly. It will jointly develop electric cars with Toyota at the NUMMI plant in Northern California.
It's a little surprising that some excellent automotive products are born of such a mix and muddle of production systems. But today's intertwined global economy – and car market – ensures that no matter where it comes from, today's cars mostly are built to high standards.
Otherwise, Americans wouldn't buy them.

Where did you read that?

1 Wal-Mart 1,800,000

2 Kelly Services 750,000

3 McDonald's 465,000

4 UPS 428,000

5 IBM 355,766

6 Home Depot 345,000

GM isn't even top 10, with 209,000 employees.

Yea, My 05 Chevrolet Equinox is assembled in Canada, but the engine is made in China and the transmission in Japan, so its considered an "import" but for EPA purposes any car made in the USA or Canada with a 75% domestic content is considered "American."

This doesn't make any sense at all to me either. Just because a plant in Ohio assembles parts made in Mexico doesn't' make a car a American car.

I was talking about where the profits from selling the car winds up, not about assembly

Take a look at Walmart.

We where talking about Car companies not retailers

I,m sorry I left you out, yes the Silverado is built on the C/K platform same as the Suburban,Yukon, Tahoe etc basicly All Full size trucks.

WTF? You said ANY company. So now that you mean employs 6x as many Americans as ANY car company, it still isn't true.

PS IF Walmart built cars in China, how would that count?

My definition and what I consider correct is that a vehicle is considered a "Foreign Car" if the Profits from selling that car leave the country it's being sold in.

You can have whatever definition you want for domestic or foreign but keep in mind, that any company employing American workers is helping the economy more than the profits going into an American or a Foreigner's pocket.

You work entirely to hard trying to argue about everything.

Like I just told you, GM doesn't employ 6 times more US workers than Ford. You can't keep stating incorrect facts to make a point and then expect everyone to keep quiet and nod their heads.

I was gonna go with female impersonator but he already gave it up... :D

I heard a story about a guy who got a supercharger full of water after driving thru a deep puddle. From what I understand, there was significant damage to the engine...
