How Desperate Can Nascar Get?

If I heard this correctly, they are going to sell a certain number of tickets for the Charlotte race at a discount. The price will be determined by the number of cars involved in the biggest wreck at Taladega today. Not only is that desperate, that is totally sick. Basing your ticket prices on how many cars and drivers are unfortunately enough to wreck, and possibly get injured.

Again, I was not paying close atention to this. I heard it on Speed. I really hope that I did not hear that correctly, and that I am wrong. If so, I apologise. But if I am right, this is desperatgion at it's worst.

That is totally unacceptable and disgusting. Is there anyone in here that wants to defend Nascar,Charlotte Speedway, or Speed for this abomination? Hoping that there is a big wreck so you can sell tickets? Nascar has gone beyond low now. What a disgrase. I have a huge network and will make swure that this gets passed around to all of the people I know who support Nascar. It is time to bring Nascar down.

You don't know that NASCAR does not own the Charlotte Motor Speedway, therefore has nothing to do setting the prices at that track? That is an SMI / Bruton Smith owned track, why don't you go ride his butt for awhile?

All tracks on the schedule are offering discounted ticket prices because of the economy...

I have no problem with discounting tickets, or even giving them away, but basing the price on someone elses bad luck is the most desperate thing you can do. And anyone that thinks that Charlotte did not get Nascar's blessings for this idea still believes in Santa. This is a sick, sick idea. This is why Nascar loses so many fans. This promotes Nascar in a negative sense. Watch the race and count the wrecks. It is like a body count. I have posted this on many different sites now and the response is overwhelmingly negative. Are you telling me that those dumb stupid hicks in Charlotte could not come up with some gimmick better than this?

"dumb stupid hicks"
Is there a reason you have to degrade people with insults to their intelligence in just about every post?

FWIW, my wife's cousin and her husband live just outside Charlotte, he's a heart surgeon. I'll be sure to let him know of your opinion, you fast race car driver you,

SST55, it is the dumb stupid hicks that don't know it is Bruton that controls ticket prices in Charlotte.

Searching the internet to post the same message of hate isn't exactly healthy behavior either.

C'mon guys, there are stupid hicks from southern California that will say anthing to get a reaction. Those dumb hicks actually believe that Lowes Motor Speedway is in Charlotte.

Bigdaddy, try to remember one thing, we're rednecks not hicks. :headbang:

Most of us hicks from So. Cal. really don't want to be associated with this

Sounds to me like Marcus Smith, now the promoter and Bruton's son, is trying to make a name for himself.

I have a name for him, but I'll keep it to myself.

Amen to that, some how I don't think Humpy would have thought that one was a good idea:(

buck, at least they know that it is in North Carolina, but that is about as far as their knowledge goes.

Hey, I'm in RI. It's all the same to me once I get south of Joisey and they start talking funny. :D

My excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Yeah I'm a Yankee and I know the track isn't in Charlotte. Imagine that!

It's a nasty promotion and it's worst than the linking of Wrestling with the All-Star race. That was bad enough.

LOL, guys and gals. It doesn't matter where you are from. It is only the uninformed that don't know the difference....speak up little daddy.

Well heck, I'm a fairly "new" fan all considered. I sure never drove a race car. ;) :D LOL All you have to do is read the internet and watch some TV shows and wah lah... you know a heck of a lot. :D

You would think that a track that is in the heart of NASCAR country wouldn't have to stoop so low to sell tickets.

They don't sell out anymore. Humpy always ran some kind of special to sell the back stretch seats where you're only able to see right in front of you. Family of 4 tickets were $25 in years past. Past couple of years it was all the food and drink you could shovel down your pie hole during the race. But, setting the price on the back of a wreck is not something Humpy would have done, I don't think. Lowes may miss him before this is all said and done...

I agree, and I don't like it either.

BUT ......... is it really any different or worse than the media and networks every single week trying to entice fans to come to, or watch a race by showing us every bad wreck that ever happened at that track?

They're running all kinds of specials to get people to come. There's the food one and this one that I can think of and I've gotten emails from driver sponsors and race teams for "specials" which includes a hospitality tent. I get all the emails and the prices keep going lower.

This is a pretty bad way to get people in the seats. Read somewhere that NASCAR wouldn't even dignify this promotion with a comment when asked about it. Bet you Bruton is wishing he had Humpy back!

Crash offer irks NASCAR | www.thatsracin.com

A top NASCAR official expressed some clear displeasure Monday about a Lowe's Motor Speedway promotion tying ticket prices to how many cars were involved in the biggest accident at Sunday's Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway.

The LMS promotion was announced last week, a couple of days before seven fans were injured in a spectacular wreck on the last lap Sunday at Talladega.

To be honest, we'd rather not dignify that type of promotion with a comment,” said Jim Hunter, NASCAR's vice president of corporate communications, during a news teleconference Monday afternoon.

Man, that's like asking the young widow at the funeral if she's got anything doing that night.

Low class.
