How did he really feel?

"I tried to block him a little bit, but once I understood that he was there I didn't push the issue anymore and Vickers turned him into me."
"I'm not really that upset, I mean, that's just the way racing goes here and sometimes you come out on the good end of the deal."

There are a lot of drivers who should take a lesson from this guy. Can you just imagine what most of the others would have said? What a calm and mature thing to say. How can anyone not like him.
Just my 2 cents.

I saw this in him quite a few years ago and that is one of the reasons that I like the boy. He really knows what racing is all about and not just a prima dona like some of those guys are. In many ways, he's a real throw back to the old days of racing.

I never liked Sr. Didn't think I would like Jr, either and at first I didn't.

But I have really begun to like Jr. and his attitude and how he conducts himself in front of the camera. The man has matured and shows tact when he speaks.

It's too bad we have to see stuff like this after a race.

I'll have to agree, Jr has matured into a real racer, his attitude on and off the track is something that a lot of these young guys need to take notice of. I realy never paid a whole a lot of attention to Jr. when he first came into Cup, but in the last two years he is has become a driver i enjoy listening to and watching on the track.

It's not Lil'E, it's some of his damn fans. Charlotte has had to hire extra security for Brian Vickers due to death threats. Morons...

BP, curious where did you get your information from regarding death threats? I saw the Jayski post this morning but it said nothing about death threats. If you got this from a source so be it but if not it is comments like that which fuel the rumor fire.

Bruton Smith Assigns Extra Security to Assist Brian Vickers during Bank of America 500 Week: In the aftermath of the controversial finish Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway, Lowe's Motor Speedway Chairman Bruton Smith has assigned extra security for driver Brian Vickers during this week's Bank of America 500 activities at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Monday, the speedway ticket office was inundated with calls from race fans angry about the finish in which Vickers initiated a wreck that took out race leader Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and second-place Jimmie Johnson on the final lap. "We want to make sure Brian has an uninterrupted weekend here and that he is able focus on his driving duties," Smith said. "We will offer security escorts in and out of the speedway and anywhere he feels he needs our assistance. We've done this in the past as well, I think the last time was for Rusty (Wallace) when he knocked Darrell (Waltrip) out of the way to win the all-star race back in 1989. We added security at his house and track the week of the Coca-Cola 600."

I was waiting for it - I saw it coming! That's just utter bulls**t that fans conduct themselves in this manner - very low-class.

After last year, Junior really has matured as a driver - I'm quite impressed. Gained alot of respect for Dale Jr. on Sunday.

Yep, this is certainly low class of the fans, but this sport is so emotional that things like this will happen, have happened and will happen again. I hate it, but that's the way this sport is. At our local track, when a certain driver wins, the boos often overtake the joy out of it for the fans of the winner. Many times, these attitudes along with the drinking can and does cause harm in the way of fights in the stands. This sport, unlike most of the others, pits 43 different teams against each other every time they meet. Usually, it's two teams vying for the win, so your either a fan of one team or the other. Here we have much more than that and with the attitude that overtakes many of these fans, many of them would never be so emotional in their regular lives, we see this sort of thing. It's a way of letting off steam and as long as it doesn't actually hurt anyone, it's probably the best way to handle things. I'd much rather see trash strewn on the track after a race than to see crowds of people fighting in the stands. Of course, there are times when you can see both. I'm not condoning what is happening, but rather telling how I see it. How can we stop this? If you come up with that answer, NASCAR will surely put you on their payroll.

It was a blurb on the morning news. And, even if the report was wrong it is a shame that extra security has to be provided or even that angry fans call the ticket office. Like those ladies @ CLT can do anything about it.

Knowing Humpy Wheeler's notoriety of being the master showman, makes me wonder, if perhaps, this is something being expounded upon for publicity purposes.

This situation is nothing to be triffled with, but is it factual ???
Have there been threats and if so, of what nature ???
If threats of a physical harm or death made, management of Lowe's Motor Speeedway has a responsibiliy to notify authorities. Anything less is a disservice to those threatened and the sport of NASCAR racing.

I didn't want to go here, because its much more newsworthy to have Jr. fans making death threats than The Humpster making up false news...

Jimmie Johnson not in a forgiving mood

By JENNA FRYER, AP Auto Racing Writer

October 10, 2006

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Here's one thing race fans won't see any time soon: Jimmie Johnson and Brian Vickers buddying up at the track, or anywhere else.

Johnson's anger toward his teammate and friend had not subsided Tuesday, two days after Vickers wrecked Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the final lap at Talladega Superspeedway.

Johnson spent the bulk of his weekly conference call avoiding even mentioning Vickers' name, finally unloading on his teammate about 20 minutes in when asked if the two had spoken.

``I got a message from him, but that was about it,'' Johnson said. ``I don't have much to say or much to talk to him about.''

Asked if their relationship had changed, Johnson said he wasn't sure because it had only been two days since the incident. But it didn't sound as if Johnson has any plans to forgive Vickers any time soon.

``I have a hard time feeling he was really sorry for what he's done,'' Johnson said. ``At the same time I know it wasn't intentional so I just kind of go on, (but) if I look at the interviews and the quotes and the message that Brian left me, I wouldn't take it as an apology by any stretch of the imagination. That's where I am at.''

Earnhardt was leading on the final lap of Sunday's race at Talladega, with the two Hendrick Motorsports drivers running second and third. Johnson attempted to pass Earnhardt heading into the third turn and Vickers followed to help push him into the lead.

But Vickers hooked the back of Johnson instead of pushing him, and the contact sent Johnson spinning into Earnhardt. Vickers darted by both of them for his first Nextel Cup victory.

The outcome hurt both Johnson and Earnhardt in the Chase for the championship standings. Vickers, who is not eligible for the Nextel Cup title, is leaving Hendrick at the end of the season to drive for Toyota next year.

His impending departure has gotten him locked out of Hendrick team meetings, and racing incidents with teammate Jeff Gordon in New Hampshire last month and now Johnson has caused friction between the once close-knit group.

But Vickers said he believes he and Johnson can get past Talladega.

``Do I think Jimmie is upset? Yes, of course he is. Do I think we can fix that? Absolutely,'' he said after the race. ``Jimmie is a great person, he is a very mature man and I am sure when the time is right, we will have our opportunity to work things out.''

Sunday's outcome also has been awkward for car owner Rick Hendrick, Johnson said.

Hendrick is like a second father to Vickers, who was very close to Ricky Hendrick -- Rick's son -- before his death in a 2004 plane crash. And Vickers' win was done in the No. 25 Chevrolet, which was owned by Rick Hendrick's late father, Papa Joe, and run by Ricky.

Hendrick had an emotional discussion with Vickers in Victory Lane, then left the track without talking to reporters.

``Rick's view is that he's the highest of highs and the lowest of lows,'' Johnson said. ``His father's team got back to Victory Lane, but at the expense of one of his other cars taking a hit in the points. I think it's tough for him. He's happy, he's bummed.

``It's the same way that I am and my team is. But at the end of the day, I'm happy for the No. 25 team. They've been working very hard to get where they are, and they've been close to winning. So I am happy for those guys. But I'm disappointed that I lost all those points that I did. And I think that's just kind of the overall feeling that everybody has.''

Like a lot of you, I just was NOT going to like Jr when he started racing. I never liked his father. But.........................over time, Jr has shown me how
maturity and experience can change one's attitude roward him. I like him now and admire the MAN he has become.
He certainly has shown more emotional maturity than Jimmie over this incident. I feel sorry for poor Brian.

I dont fell sorry for Brian one bit. He just dumped him, he knew this was most likly the last chance for him to win in the 25 and he took it. From watching it in show mo, Jimmie was out of shape b4 he even went to pass jr, looks like vickers already had him jacked up a little to start with.

I fell for Jimmie and Jr, It sucks being took out of the last lap.

I have always been a SR fan, i liked JR for a while, but then stoped, i guess i just liked him because he was the driver to like. But i will always be a Sr fan.

As i have said before, it is easy to get on here and say what happaned, because "the replay showed it" or "i watched it 100 times on t vo" and even "Bob Dillner(sp) said so, so it much be true" But on the track it is a totaly diff ball game, you cant see that well, to much is going on for you to really plan anything, and just since you have followed the sport for 25 years still dont mean jack crap tell you have sit behind the wheel of a racecar and raced. True i race dirt, no rear view mirrows, track changes just about every lap, could be smooth, sould be tackey, could have ruts deep enough to when you hit them the car gets air born. Im not claiming i know it all, but its easy to judge watching it on tv. and most of the time, what you see on tv and replays is not what "really" happand.

Vickers was "ordered" stop racing Gordon in that NH race.

They both live in the same building but I doubt Vickers has any dinner invitations coming anytime soon.

Bucky I agree

Which I think is a load of crap! Drivers are out there to race...not roll over.

For the most part I do agree with you... Cept in the case mentioned, Vickers was not racing for position and he was holding up a team mate for no good reason. Their should be at least SOME loyality between members of the same team.
Betsy

Vickers actually was racing for position - BUT he KNEW Gordon was faster. Vickers wanted to stay ahead so he had a shot to get Kevin Harvick on a restart because nobody was going to catch or pass Kevin Harvick on the racetrack.

Could it be different due to Jimmie and Brian being team mates where to Lil'E it was a racing deal? Sometimes things aren't so black and white as to well he feels this way so why shouldn't so-and-so feel the same way.
